I'd like to have the opportunity to ask a Crotched spokesperson some questions. They took a huge risk in completely overhauling the old Bobcat, and as far as this skier is concerned, they produced a great little ski area.

No hurry, but at some point can you make it happen Greg?

Absolutely. Utimate goal is to get as many resorts to participate as possible. It'll sort of be a badge of honor for them.

Thanks Bob. I contacted Saddleback this morning. Does anyone else have any suggestions for mountains they'd be most interested asking questions of? Post them here and I'll try to line it up.

Greg -

Personally, I'd like to hear from come of the larger mountains that sem to focus more on the resort angle rather than day traffic. Hills like Killington, Sunday River, Stratton, Sugarbush......

I'd also really like to hear from the folks at Wachusett. Granted it's gotta be tough running a hill so close to a major city, but there has to be some way to make Wawa seem less like skiing on the Southeast Expressway at rush hour........

Thanks CM! The Loaf meets this criteria. Did you see that one yet?

I've contacted Sunday River, Stratton, Sugarbush, and Wachusett. I know Steve Wright, Marketing Director at Killington already and he's leaving soon to work for Jay. Once he gets set up there, he said he'll participate for Jay. Once I find out who Steve's replacement is a K, I'll contact him/her.

i'd be interested in seeing burke take the challenge. would also be interested in seeing cannon answer some questions regarding mittersill and how they have changed their development and expansion plans due to land swap issues.

Thanks Steve - I already asked the folks at Burke and never heard anything so I followed up with them. I also contacted Cannon.

Tenney Mountian in Plymouth NH

I believe Tenney Mountain may be a viable candidate for the Alpine Zone Challenge. Tenney is a nice mid-size mountain just west of Rte 93 at Exit 26 in Plymouth NH. It has a nice fall line with complimentary terrain, family orientated & affordable with no crowds during the week and limited crowds on weekends.

Unfortunately, over the last ten years, the mountain has a history of operating, closing, changing hands, repeat...

Reportedly current ownership is a snowmaking manufacturer where they are refittng the mountain with a new "Snow Making System" and showing it off to the public and clients year round.

Also Dan Eagan of the famous Eagan Brothers of Warren Miller Ski Movie fame has been General Managing the Mountain Operations for two seasons. During the ski season Tenney spent $$,$$$ on Radio and Television advertising as well as actively pursued ski clubs and travel agencies with group discounts.

I have enjoyed skiing there since the mid-80's and hope they stay around for many years.

I believe the website is http://www.tenneymtn.com

Mount Sunapee in Southern NH

Sunapee Mountain may also be a viable candidate for the Alpine Zone Challenge.

Sunapee is a mid-size mountain in SOUTHERN NH with a NORTH-FACE just east of Rte 91 and south of Rte 89. The mountain is a NH State Park with Skiing Operations managed by OKEMO Mountain. I skied there once in the 1987 when the State ran the operations and never returned until OKEMO took over a few years ago. A difference of Night & Day! We often wonder what could be done with Cannon if run by the right management staff.

Sunapee is family orientated & affordable with no crowds during the week and manageable crowds on weekends. The fall line off one peak with an extended shoulder is moderate, with complimentary terrain, including a nice "Sun Bowl" served by two base lifts as well as its own quad lift.

They groom most of the mountain daily, however they leave a few trails "wild" and have some very sweet glades.

Except for Holiday periods, Wednesday’s are 2-for-1 skiing.

I believe the website is http://www.mtsunapee.com

It's all relative. In my opinion they are very crowded on weekends and fairly crowded on weekdays.

You are right all relative!

I agree with steve, I would really like to ask questions of a burke or cannon rep. I would also like to read something from one of those devious wildcat marketing folk. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to do this Greg!!!

Thanks porter. I contacted Wildcat as well. One thing I'm finding is that many ski area employees take a few weeks off right after the season ends. A lot of them are away currently.

Seven more resorts have agreed to participate (some more of the biggies too)! However, I don't want to saturate the forum with new requests. Any thoughts on good ways to roll these out?

Greg, How about a typical question list that is asked of all resorts. (Perhaps 5 or so, then the other 5 could be specialized toward that resort.
Interesting thought. However, we would have to come up with five questions that could cover any resort. I kind of like having the ability to customize all ten questions andI think the answers on standard questions may become stale and redundant. Other thoughts?
