An Interesting Seasonal Ale

Just tried Blue Moon Winter Ale. Very interesting and different than anything I've ever tried. Kind of reminds me of cream soda. It's sweet, malty, not much hop bite. And not a spiced winter warmer. Not a style that I'd normally like much, but I like it. If you enjoy trying different styles of brews, give it a shot. My caveat is I think this is an ale that some folks would hate but others would really like.

I agree to a point. Definately not your "typical" Winter Ale. And it does seem to be one of those "love it or hate it" kinds. Trouble is, I'm not sure about it myself. I like it well enough, but probably not enough to get me to buy more than one. And there are certainly others I'd drink first. I guess its a nice change of pace kind of beer.

I definitely fall into the "hate it" camp. I was quite disappointed in it. Better Blue Moon sticks to whites.

Expanded thought from a more comfortable computer: I think Blue Moon went overboard trying to fit in some winter spices and flavors. What they ended up with as syrupy sweet, and a weird combination of flavors that don't necessarily go together. As I recall, too much honey sweet flavor, malt sat heavy on the finish, insufficient hops to prepare for the damp orange/clove punch in the middle.

In winter I really fancy any well made porter and I prefer it at room temperature.
My last year's favorite: Catamount.

Just brewed an Imperial IPA on Sat. should finish at ~9% alc/vol, well over 100 IBU's!

It's not in season right now, but if you like "fruity" beer (hey-I'm a girl!), then next summer pick up some Middleberry Ale from Otter Creek.
