Okemo serves a really important role, my wife can ski every green and blue trail there, she has a GREAT time. We looked at the 3D map and joked about how flat it is, but it is a great stepping stone for her to prepare her to move on to better terrain. I went once by myself and I wanted to break something I was so bored, but seeing my wife have such a good time there makes it worth it for me, especially since she knows that it is "Slowkemo" and she is prepping for the real skiing at Killington, MRG, Jay Peak.

An evidently Okemo also offers free ATM skimming and scamming......police found a skimming device on the base lodge ATm. Check your accounts if you used it.

Jackson Gore as well....

I feel the same way about Bretton Woods. BW has given my wife a ton of confidence, and it's been great to see her skiing improve. And there is always fun to be had at Bretton Woods if you know where to look.

I fully understand why Okemo and BW are not for everyone, but I can also understand why they have their fans. We are lucky to have a diversity of ski areas - anything from Mad River Glen to Okemo. Choices in life are not a bad thing.

Good points! I remember a time when my wife would not ski down black diamond trails but about 7 years ago starting with ski areas that had easy black diamond trails that helped with her confidence. Her first black diamond was Twister at Pats Peak as well as Cyclone. A few days later she did Middle Trigger and Tiger at Gunstock. Then Okemo and Bretton Woods were great developmental resorts skiing almost any black at Okemo, Waterville and Bretton Woods. In fact, tree skiing for her started at Bretton Woods in the Rosebrook Glades. Then a few years ago we stepped it up for her and started skiing black diamond trails with bumps like Stien's Run at Sugarbush and the front 5 at Cannon. Now when we do go to any of the aforementioned, she looks at many of the trails labeled as black diamond and skis them like blue trails. I ski with my wife 95% of the time and it was in my best interest to be patient. To this day I enjoy going with her to Okemo or BW because I love to watch her fly down those trails. In the same respect we go to Okemo once per season and BW maybe twice so it is not a big part of our season. Today, my wife can ski most anything with me as long as there is no ice or scraped off conditions (still a mental block for her). In the end. just have fun with it!

There is a lot of chest pounding "bumps, trees or most difficult all day in this forum which is why Okemo, Bretton Woods, Waterville, and in some cases Mount Snow and Sunday River get a bad wrap. We like the diversity!

Okemo is great for what it is, and I can appreciate there are people that enjoy that type of wide-open cruising terrain. If that is what they want to ski, then I'm perfectly happy with them skiing Okemo instead of going to the places I personally enjoy.

The best part of this thread:

This is a topic for the discussion of skiing. Please, no personal attacks or arguing (including arguments about skiing).

Don't they know what a ski forum is for?!?

The beast is back (again and again and again)/Killington sucks/FSC sucks/Magic's a trainwreck/Ary's a monster/205cm or bust

BW is my favorite place to ski with my wife. She always has a good time there. She doesn't ski enough to build more confidence. I've never skied Okemo, but I want to cross it off my list and it sounds like she'd like it.

We each enjoy what we each enjoy.

The moment someone said their preference is THE preference others must adopt, that's when arguments erupt.

Keep in mind those, who think their preference is the only preference worth having are typically narrow minded people. Do you really care what narrow minded people think of you anyway? ;)

If that's "the worst" then you are leading a charmed life, my friend.....and possibly with very few friends.

I am living a pretty charmed life, as this is a first world problem.

Regarding friends, I have plenty, but living in NYC there isn't exactly much ski culture around. My hardcore skier friends left for whiter pastures (slc, squaw, denver, etc). I have a couple of legit ski buddies left in NYC, but most of my friends here who want to go skiing, want the southern Vermont short drive party house weekend. They don't care about good terrain, good snow, or actual skiing. And that's fine, but I want to ski legit terrain. I have 7 months a year to party with my friends.
