Situation: You and a group of ten close buddies from college are on a ski weekend at some resort. One guy has a bad injury late morning of the first day (broken ankle of all things while skiing Starr). Everyone goes down to first aid to check on him, and a couple volunteer to go to the hospital. It's clear his weekend (and season) are ruined.

Question: With two or three people already heading off to the hospital, do you also go to the hospital? Should everyone have gone?

Me, I thought it was overkill to have everyone go to the hospital and kept skiing, but, as a sign of moral support, I can see how it could have been nice to have everyone there cheering him on.

We of course made it up to him out in Burlington that night (as much as we could given the pain medication he was on).

exactly

I mean if we're talking a life threatening injury or a possible life time disability, then yes I would be right there with my friend. If it was me though and just a broken bone, I'd INSIST that everyone keep riding, unless I needed a ride to the hospital. If the latter was the case, draw straws for who takes them.

No I wouldn't go with my buddy to the hospital..Sitting in the waiting room just adds insult to injury and if I got injured I would want my buddies to enjoy their skiing...

If I was with "a" buddy I'd definately go. If there is a group of 10 I think it makes sense for folks to split up the visitation. For one thing, the hospital certainly doesn't need 10 folks hanging around. In Austria 2 years ago we were skiing with a few folks from Britain. The day before we hooked up with them the wife of one of the guys had fallen and broken her thigh. She was airlifted off the mountain. His wife wanted him to ski, so he skied during the day and then immediately went to visit in the afternoon. If there's someone hurt on the mountain you have to do whatever to get them the help needed. In this case your friend is being helped and there's really nothing that you can do.

Only one person needs to take him to the hospital. The rest can still ski. Once the xrays have been taken and the proper care administered get him/her a seat at the bar and everybody can chip in to pay the tab.
