So, does anyone know of any decent hike/ski terrain in the Tug Hill Plateau region? With all the snow they get out there, I imagine there has to be something with some slope to it. Thanks!

The vertical tops out about 600'...

....and there's only one real ridge where there's decent vertical....Snow Ridge ski area sits on it. There used to be great glades, and a nice "mini-canyon" of near extreme shots - all of 100-200 feet long.

The old owner who just sold never did what I suggested (hey....neither does my wife) which is to thin out all the glades he let grow in, and increase the gladed/"extreme" terrain along this one fold of topography. That interesting terrain could make up for the lack of vertical, and yes, they do get epic dumps off Lake Ontario. Some powder days you need to pole yourself 1/3 of the way along the crest of the regular trails to just get enough momentum to move going straight.

A small diamond in the rough....but it would take some vision and some guys with saws to clear the place up.

Fond, fond memories of skiing "the ridge" growing up, and still hit it for the occassional powder pig day mid-week when the need arises. Mid week they have an entire t-bar area called Snow Pocket that stays closed, and a small hike off the main chair gets you lap after lap on "the pocket". One big powder day (I recall about 16") nobody really showed I hiked it I think almost 20 or so times and made perfect "farmed" lines side by side which I could look up at as I drove off. All mine, and 10k vert untracked to boot. Beats whistling dixie....
