Anyone know what happened to the RSN forums?

Seems like a bunch of them dissapeared.

Question two is would you be upset about a bunch of exiles moving in, here?

Thanx, I'll let them know... Those that I can find.

There were a lot of people there. Some of us actually got along. ;)

My question was answered by the staff at RSN. I guess they are in the process of re-designing the forum section and have shut down certain forums while they do thier work. In November they are going to shut down all the forums and they don't expect to be up again for a few months.
SOURCE

I Emailed RSN myself directly, but haven't received a response. It's about time they updated their forum software, but did they really need to axe all those forums to do so? The Sugarbush board was pretty active. It should be interesting to see what they come up with, but the timing is pretty bad...

They are taking down forums for ski resorts in November and expect them to be down for a few months???

Does this make sense to anyone?

Not really, but I can't vouch for the accuracy of that post. Anyway, why does it matter? You've found a new home here... ;) Welcome, Lostone.

We are currently in the process of re-designing the Forum Community Section. The first step in this process is to close all non-active forums. We have left several forums open for your enjoyment until November 1st, 2004. At that time, the community section will be closed except for those resorts that have made arrangements to keep their forum open. We anticipate the launching of our new Forum Community January 1, 2005. If you have any further questions, please contact rsncommunity.

Thank you!

I've never been to the RSN forums... but it sure seems like bad timing on their part...

The premise behind them was interesting. I think at one point they were trying to be the central host for ski area message boards. To a limited extent they've succeeded. However, the software behind their forums is antiquated and lacks features (search, private messages, etc.). It's also a threaded format which encourages a rather chatty feel. Spend some time on the Adirondacks forum and you'll see what I mean. Anyway, an upgrade will certainly be welcome, but I don't understand why they couldn't develop it in parallel to running the old forums. I wonder if they will lose many members with this approach.

Other than things didn't always work ...

Such as links and images, I like that forum style.

The chatty style works well for this scene as it is a chatty kinda atmosphere. I know of another forum that went from roughly that style to the BBcode style and enough members hated the new style that they scattered. A number of those are back in a home made forum very similar to that one. If it is set up properly, there are things you can do with that kind of forrum that are unavailable with this type.

As to closing down the "inactive" ones, Sugarbush has been in the top 10 90% of the last year. I think the clue is:
except for those resorts that have made arrangements to keep their forum open.

It will be interesting to see if they get back the members after January.

In any case, Thanx for the update. They have yet to answer my email.

Like? Just curious.

I think some folks just struggle with change. We were the first NE hiking forum to use a linear forum approach. When VFTT and the AMC Forum switched from a threaded to linear BBS, there was some backlash. It just takes some time for members get used to it.

IMHO, threaded forums are so 1999 ;) and will soon be nothing more that Internet nostalgia.

I agree that they will soon only be memories...

Speaking of which, wanna buy a TRS 80 Model 1?

As for what could you do?

We have a bar going in one. It is on the last page. Unless you go there, you can be in the forum permanently, but not know it exists. Posting to it keeps the thread from being deleted as the inactive ones fall off the last page, but it never shows on the front page. It can be a blast. Some of the same people, but a whole different atmosphere.

Sugarbush RSN forum is back alive...

Sugarbush RSN forum is back alive...but I've started a trail of breadcrumbs to here and the Mad River Forum.

Might get more people to look in. :)

I visted a few times. Although the forums mentioned above are pretty active the others are pretty dead.

I also found their board structure confusing and outdated. It's no wonder they've opted for a new system - in the long run it will pay off for sure.

Greg.
I was a member of the Adk. forum om RSN. I recently wrote Barb Meunier to see why the fourms weren't back and this was her response:

Oh, man... you're not going to like this. Our main programmer (hell, our
only programmer) has left the building for a job in Vancouver. We are
interviewing this week - that means the forum rebuild is going to be bumped
out a bit. The resaon Wachusett got to keep its forum is because they have
an active forum manager that has taken full responsibility for any dealings
- as well, they are paying customers.

Sorry - go skiing instead.

Part of me says "who cares" but another does wonder how Ghost is doing. :D

I'm surprised that Ghostrider has not appeared here! I know he has been lurking in RSN's Sugarbush room and heckling the locals there.
