Anyone know what happened to the RSN forums?

SRO, Ghost is doing well. I met him, Woody, TJF, and JoyParkWay a few weeks ago at Whiteface. They all seem like nice people. They're not the crazy flamers they played in the ADK forum, but how could anyone be? :D That place was fun though. This is a good forum, you just have to be careful how you joke around with people or they think you're attacking them. I guess I got too use to how things where in ADK. This is more civil and polite which is good. I get it now.

HPD...that's cool.....the RSN forums were alot more lively but I guess we just have to go with what we got. Any forum is better than no forum and I am glad

The last thing I want is for this place to be looked at as some dry, elitist message board, but I need to try to strike a balance between an exchange of information in a mature way and a community full of camaraderie.

I think linear forums like this result in longer, more detailed and thought-out posts, while the threaded style of the old RSN was more chatty. Perhaps the private message feature here also cuts down on some of the personal back and forth. Then again K-chat uses phpBB and that's as chatty as RSN ever was.

The fact is that many forum lurkers remain reluctant to post. Inside jokes and cliques compound the problem and don't result in newbies feeling comfortable enough to contribute. Additionally, sometimes sarcasm and kidding doesn't read as obvious as the poster may think.

In any event, let's continue to try and make this a place that others feel comfortable in joining in on the conversation...

Greg, I agree with everything you say. I feel bad because Rossiskier took me the wrong way and thought I was insulting him. Looking back I can see why and I'm truly sorry for that. This forum isn't dry it's fun. You just need to know the norms and now I do. When in Rome do as the Romans do or get out of town.

Nope, this place is not elitest at all. In fact, the people here are great and mature. A good variety of folks and ideas  . The Sugarbush RSN Chat Room can get nasty (but entertaining at times). It's been great being here...the 400 some odd posts attest to that (I think). 8)

I guess so! Second only to me (mu-wha-ha-ha-ha), you have the highest posts-per-day average out of this forum's top ten posters!

Is that RSN software upgrade finished yet? How does one access their forums now?

That's questionable.

You may enjoy posting, but I am curious, do you read any of the other posts enough to verify your claim?

No, not yet. To access it's RSN.com - click forums - take your pick. The only active one right now is Washusett, that one is pretty tame. Here's the link.

Unlike some, I do read what is said in here and now that I think of it, there is one exception to my statement. You sound like an LSAT test writer. So I will correct my statement (from LAST week): MOST people in here are great and mature.

Except fo me... I get a little annoyed with people dissing things they don't know about... And then try to set things straight...

Seems to be a lot of novices here - which is cool... But people need to understand that novices don't really have a total picture of the way things work at a mountain... They may have opinions that they have nurtured from a novice point of view... But it's not usually correct...

...jmho...

Is there a specific example that you have in mind?

Dude - I've seen you ski... Your good...

I'm just sayin that sometimes people who havent been in the scene too long formulate opinions that probably should wait a while before they bubble up to the surface of a chat board... And if they do - should not be suprised when someone with more experience discounts them...

It's like the person blasting Hunter.... Hunter is a great mountain... BUT - like I said - it sucks for intermidiates... It also catches a bad rap for crowds... Greg saw it at it's worst - but normally it's not that crowded... At least in the expert areas...

So blast Hunter with limited information... But I support Hunter cause i have lots of friends that own businesses there and I personally think it's the best skiing in the NYC area...
And this opinion is based upon 25 years of experience as opposed to one year and what people tell me to think...

D - I can see your affinity for Hunter cuz the terrain does rock, but don't get all defensive because of some all too common Hunter criticism and indicate this forum is just a bunch of know-it-all newbs. The fact remains there is a stigma about Hunter that it's always crowded and just full of NYCers. I don't know how to overcome that. I saw many very good skiers at Hunter last month and during my first visit a few years ago. I was very impressed by the terrain and felt the crowds both times were tolerable. I don't even think the day I briefly skied with you was that crowded. Certainly no more than any other ski area would be on such a fine day during the Christmas holiday week.

I only get defensive because - as I stated - I know people who are suffering with their businesses this year at Hunter... I want people to come and enjoy a great mountain and a great town... Come - stay - eat - drink - ski!!! So I will defend it when people give negative opinions that i find unwarented for 80% of the skiing public...

I just want everyone to understand why the criticism exists and where it comes from...
