I've been using Ski Tracks. On a day over 20 degrees, it just makes it through the day before the battery dies. On colder days, it doesn't make it through the day. Any suggestion for apps that are easier on the battery?

Yesterday I left a handwarmer in same pocket as phone and got great battery life. I use alpine replay, now called trace, for tracking my day. Today I had no handwarmer and got poor battery life

Coincidence ? Not sure. Will try again with a warmer again soon.

I use Navionics and got through the full day at 15 degrees today. That's with the update that came out last week, previously I found it to suck battery. Much longer battery life now, and much more stable app.

Thanks. Can I assume that is a rechargeable battery pack and do you have experience with it in the cold? Do you also use something to keep it warm too, like gmcunni suggested?

Yes, fully rechargeable off a USB port on your computer or car charger. I keep it in a midlayer chest pocket; same pocket I keep my phone in

Yes. I carry a similar one (plus a spare phone battery) when I'm traveling for work. I'm frequently 3 days away from electricity. I get 2 days out of the battery pack, plus a day out of the spare battery.

On the slopes I don't care that much. If my phone dies so be it. But if you find power-friendly tracking apps you can usually get through a day (depending in your phone).

I use the same app and have had no problems with battery life. Just make sure that the screen is off. It will keep working in the background.

I'm not sure what has happened to Ski Tracks, but when I used it today it went through my battery like there was no tomorrow. After about 1.5 hours of skiing my battery went from full to 20%. I've always been impressed with the battery life when I've used Ski Tracks. I'm not sure if there has been an update or something else has changed, but whatever has happened I'm not going to use it again until the situation is resolved.

If your phone doesn't work well in the cold, it may be time for a new battery. I had that issue last year with my iPhone 5. Put a new battery in, problem solved. Ironically, I received a check from Apple months later when they had a battery recall and I provided my repair receipt. (They did the same when I had my power button/volume rocker replaced).

The phone is less than four months old which leads me to believe that something is going on with the app.

I have a hard time making it through the day with a tracking app. I actually had a usb cable charger as well and I broke the port on my phone because of the way it was jammed in my jacket.

I usually use Trace also.

Can I borrow your time machine to get the new iPhone model before it is released to the public? :)
