Actually no, I'm not.

I was starting to look forward to the season, Red Sox been sucking wind and really haven't been all that fun to watch, Summer pretty non-existant this year, but then Jim Johnson died. And Stewart Bradley went onto the IR, and Ingram went on IR...

Then The Eagles signed Ron Mexico, the Dog-Killer.

I've bled green since Vermiel, Jaworski, Carmichael, Montgomery, Ryan, Cunningham, Brown, White.....

Can't cheer for Vick, can't support a team that would sign him. Fan loyalty can only go so far.

So I'll still watch the NFL, still enjoy games, just won't be as vested or excited as usual.

The Iggles signing Vick kind of suprised me. I was figuring that he was destined to end up with the rest of the mis-fits out in Oakland or possibly with the multiple convicts that are part of the Bengals

There was some scuttlebutt that McNabb lobbied for Vick to be signed. Vick is a seriously overrated QB, but could be dangerous if brought in in certain situations (No not the friggin Wildcat!) He could be used in a HB Option, or as a WR etc...

If he wasn't into killing dogs and running interstate gambling operations I would've been thrilled with the signing. Imagining a formation with McNabb under center, Westy in the slot, Jackson and Curtis as the X and Y, and McCoy and Vick split in the backfied.... Tons of possibilities.

But I can't separate the person from the player, Booooo Mike Vick, Hoooraaaayyy Beer!!!!

I am a dog lover. I find what Vick did disgusting.

But you don't buy into the "he paid his debt to society" argument that is being thrown around? He did some serious time. Why shouldn't he be permitted to resume his football career?

As an (B)eagles fan, I think it sucks. Yes, everyone deserves a second chance, Vick already burned through that and more... It is not just the brutality to the dogs, lying about it to Blank, Goodell and the FED's when he was confronted about it. What about the pot issues? Trying to hide the pot in a waterbottle to get on a plane? These are really bad decisions, a quaterback in the NFL is not an easy position to play, you need a high level of intelligence to play the position. While being a gifted athlete Vick is not an smart person, you need better decision making ability to play this position. I cannot help to wonder how much of this is from Reid's own shortcomings in raising his own kids.

I agree with Phil.

Chris, the debt to society was for breaking the law, it was more about the interstate gambling etc... than cruelty to animals. I know a guy who committed suicide in prison on animal cruelty charges. Long story, but he was helping a neighbor who was old and infirmed and had a dog that was old as well. The neighbor could no longer care for the dog, and no one would take the dog due to it's age and temperment. They tried to bring the dog to Humane Society, and every available animal rescue group they could find. No one would help. Finally, he took the dog into the woods, and put a .45 slug into the base of its skull, killing it instantly. He brought the carcass back for proper disposal and was arrested. He was given 20 years in Federal prison with no chance for parole until after 5. He hung himself in his cell.

It could easily be argued that he euthanized an animal that was old and in all likelyhood suffering. The dog would have suffered much more had it stayed with his owner as his owner could no longer care for it.The local vets refused to put it down, and all proper channels did nothing for him. I'm not defending his "Old Yeller" approach but Vick sadistically drowned, electrocuted and beat to death many dogs after making them fight each other. Vick served less than 2 years and goes back to a multi-million dollar career playing a game.

No sir, not buying it.

I'm on the fence.

Part of me says, yes he paid his time.

Part of me also realizes that if one of 'us' had that kind of felony on our record, our future career plans better center around working the McDonald's drive through because it's unlikely you'll get much better of a job than that.

60 minutes just had an interview with him, seems like he is saying what everyone wants tho hear. Then towards the end it mentions he has about 10 lawyers and image people so we can only guess they are the ones who told him how to answer the questions.

Sounds like he has been involved in dog fighting in some way since he was 8, no way 2 years has reformed him.

call me an ass, but i just dont get that worked up over animal cruelty when there are children being sold, murdered, exploited and abused on a daily basis.

that being said, i think vick got off rather easy, to say the least. but he's also an immensely overrated quarterback who will most likely be out of the league again in a few years. the nfl is so big, every story gets overblown.

dont matter anyway, as the steelers are gonna roll to another title.

Bring a Jet fan I don't think I have much to look forward to this season.

Alex

a possible franchise quarterback that could solidify your offense for the next decade. I'd say you have a lot to look forward to this season.

yes, I'm looking forward to the Jets season. Especially with the new regime of Rex Ryan. I'm thinking the D is gonna be decent.

Because he's a representative of the league. This isn't about paying a debt society, he's essentially a public official. Show me a high profile member of any company that's done stuff like Vick has and is just let right back in the door after getting out of prison. Look at the suspensions handed out for testing positive for pot, in any sport. Way beyond what the criminal system does.

Like DHS mentioned, felony convictions are a big deal in the rest of the world. Given the publicity professional athletes get, it should be even bigger in the major sports leagues because it directly impacts the business through losing revenue from, for example, Paul.
