Trip Report:
At it again Monday night. Always great to get out on a Monday! I showed up early in hopes of hitting Hurricane but alas it was already closed, as were Twister and FIS. Headed over to the triple just as Ga2ski and Scott showed up. Conditions were good, a little bumped up snow left from Sunday brought some variety to these fast becoming familiar trails. Headed back to the lodge after a couple runs and met up with Chile for a few more. The usual line up at the top for sign up, tree_skier & Charlie were first in line. A bit colder than it has been but still perfectly comfortable, I'm guessing somewhere in the mid to upper twenties.
The race took place on FIS. The course wasn't too difficult and Pat's groomers did a nice job. Pairs were Chile & Charlie, Bob R & tree_skier, Ga2ski & Scott. I paired up with another solo racer. It's a blast watching our two best racers going head to head and they didn't dissapoint. Tree_skier placed 8th overall and Bob 13th, earning us 8.31 and 7.78 points respectively. Scott has consistently improved each week and now appears on the first page of the results, good for 22nd overall and 6.31 points. I guess he got a little to aggressive on the second run and forgot about the first gate… Ga2 was finally bested by the other Teleskier in the overall standings but as always skied very solid and earned us a valuable 7.45 points. Chile and Charlie also gave us great results - I think this may have been Chile's best yet - he got us 3.84 pts (and skied exactly the same time as my best run on the night!). Even though we didn't use it, Charlie put up a respectable 3.40 points. I don't think I've seen him come across the finish without a big sh*t eating grin yet, he's always having a blast on the slopes! I had a minor breakthrough, feeling much more comfortable and earning my first bronze. Overall we finished 4th on the night which kept us solidly in 3rd place. Apres as always was a good time. Saw the Olympic crashes, some news report on porn that got everyone's attention, and the video of the race (with another good crash - a boarder hitting the gate, going over on his back and head, colliding with the skier racing with him, ending with the skier getting spun around and going down on his back down the hill). I got smoked in the eating contest but did well with the giveaways getting a boarders cap (which we gave to the waitress after she expressed interest - hope she's there next week) and couple Sierra Nevada hats with free passes. Score! Good conversation ensued and before we knew it Bob, Charlie & I shut the place down again.
Next week will be tough as Bob and Chile will be out. The top 5 scores are counted towards the team total so with just 5 racers eveyone's time will count. Hopefully I can continue to improve and put more than 1.00 on the board.
