No! YOU!!! (Sorry buddy but that's not a "newsflash" at all). Comps aren't pro deals.

Oh and by the way, since I'm savvy enough to get my stuff fully comped, I wouldn't have a need for measly pro forms, now would I?

I think it is Greg's fault for not giving an expansive written test to determine that the moderator candidates have enough knowledge about skiing, riding, hiking, biking and 8 million other activities that might come up, before accepting their application to get into the exciting, high paying career of message board moderation. (That was all one sentence!:lol:)

I took a quick look at the Member list and there are over 2500 members. Anyone think anyone would give a discount for the special 2500 people that post on a message board? They don't call that a special discount, but a low price.

It is amazing how much heat trolls with no presence in a forum can stir up.

The guy who started the post at TGR had 2 posts. The one here... 3? :uzi:

I think Greg should be buying us all new skis with his pro form discount. And I just heard of Pro form about 5 years ago. After more than 15 years of skiing. Tho I did know that instructors got a good deal on skis, having boutght a pair from one, years ago. (Olin Mark VI. Good skis. Ran them into the ground. ;) )

Oh, and another thing to all you ingrates.;) I am indeed working on discounts for AZ members. You may recall in the past that I offered a promo code for a 10% discount on backcountry.com items to AZ posters that have made at least 100 posts. Sure, it's small, but hey - it was better than nothing. I'm aiming to compile a list of deals daily in the new gear deals forum, and we're working on other things for this season. Stayed tuned.

don't take this the wrong way, but I am astounded that so many of you haven't heard of the term "pro-form." i am hoping that it may be a matter of vocabulary. when i worked at hunter mtn on ski patrol, it was called "pro-form," but when I worked at campmor, we called it "pro-deal."

at the very least, you guys were aware of the fact that gear-makers give deep discounts to ski area and shop employees, right? perhaps you just didn't know what it was called?

i'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt here. after all, pro-forms/pro-deals are what make the world go round. Like the people who can't find Washington DC on a map, if you don't know what pro-form is, you have no business voting in our elections.

Oh my  .

And I have to disagree with this BS that the phrase "pro form" is "cryptic" insider lingo. In fact, when I read CM's post I was struck by exactly the same thought as was Lloyd Braun. That definitely was a little weird. I've never been "in the industry" but I can't even remember a time that I didn't know what a pro form was. Not tryin' to embarrass anybody because there's nothing to be embarrassed about. It's not a big deal but I'd have thought the mods on a ski forum would know about something like that because you just learn about things like that by osmosis; you're involved in outdoor sports (it's not just for skiing) and you just pick it up involuntarily. No offense but I'm just sayin' it's not "cryptic lingo" reserved for a special few. That's just wrong.

Thanks. I too am NOT in the industry, and never have been, but sure as hell know what a pro form is.

anyway "pro form" sucks compared to "shop form"

Thanks .. I am such a newbie when it comes to the ski industry
I think I have all the gear I need ...

Proform used to be a great way to get new skis and boards... Just about anyone that was involved in the ski industry, in any way - was able to get a form... It was actually a form that a person could check boxes next to what you wanted and send a check with the form.. So if you were close to someone in the "industry" you could get stuff cheap... I had a friend that worked for Hermans Sports in NJ - he got me my first pair of K2s there(TNC Comps 203 or 204s - I forget..)

Now you can get really great "hand me downs" from people that still get good deals... Like Ski Patrol or school... Occasionally you'll run into a rep that's trying to infiltrate an area that will get pretty lose with a proform... Or if you find out about a new snowboard company - send them an email and ask about proform - it may be easier to get one when a company's looking for exposure...

It's seriously is a great thing.. I'm not sure of the ups or downs of it from a ski industry perspective - but I know dozens of people that have benefitted from it..

Well no body cares anymore who has the bigger d*ck, because mine clearly dwarfs them all.

Marc, I think the wording in your post was off. I know how people get about grammar and sentence structure around here. Is this what you meant...

Well no body cares anymore who has the bigger d*ck, because mine clearly looks like a dwarf compared to them all.

I don't see way the people who didn't know what a pro form is are taking a verbal beating from some of you. I knew what a pro form was when I was a little kid, but my dad was a ski instructor. There's lots of people who don't have a friend or accquentince who is a patroller or instructor so they just never heard the term. You sure don't read about it in the ski rags.

I sure wasn't giving anyone a "verbal beating". I just disagreed that it was a "cryptic insider" term. It's not. Period.

And I disagree you wouldn't ever see mention of a pro form in the ski rags. Maybe not in Ski or Skiing but...c'mon, who reads those. I could definitely see an off-hand reference to a pro form or pro deal in Powder, Couloir, Skier or some others.

HPD - who you tryin' to fool? I think you're just tryin' to play nicey-nice with Greg so you get free swag.

The sad part is, a while back i was considering joining TGR. Those people have some problems.

P.S. Is it just me or was a moderater from TGR using bad language towards the person who posted the thread?

pizza - here's a first - you are absolutely, 100% correct and I agree with you. I guess I knew that manufacturers gave away gear at deep discounts for ski industry people, just never heard the term. I was never a patroller, never worked at a major retailer, never worked at a ski hill in the winter (only in summer), so I never got an advantage or price break.

Speaking only for myself, I consider myself a skiing enthusiast rather than a professional. I'm something more than an amateur but less than an industry insider. I've been skiing since 1968. I've raced competitively, hit almost 70 mph in a GS course, jumped off a 35 meter jump at age 12, and skied all over the US and in Europe. I hope that qualifies me, even if I don't know every outdoor term out there. As I wrote before, we mods do our best.......

What is a Shapefile?
For those of us who don't know what a "Pro-Form" is (and there are some people who are making me feel bad that I don't know what it is) I challenge them to answer my question. This is not an "insider" term either but a commonly used term in the field that I work in. I won't think anyone is stupid for not knowing the definition.

This thread is going nowhere fast.

Who cares about a troll on TGR that's using AZ to get the best of them. Who cares what they say about us on TGR? Who cares who knows the term Pro-Form? I come back from my first full day of teaching and I find this crap people? Let's go back to the summer crotch itch thread for crying out loud!!!!!!!
