skipping a generation

2 kids here- daughter, 17, graduating HS this year as a Junior with high honors and going to South Portland for Paramedicine program then onto UMaine med $chool for emergency medicine. She ski raced with the weekend GMVS program for 5 seasons.

The son, 14 is a hands on kid- interested in automotive/small engines. Loves turkey hunting (got a 19 lb bird this weekend) and snowboarding.

So- clearly the winter sports thing must skip a generation.

Twp teenage kids who both ski and ride. Wife used to love skiing, but has lost some of the love for the sport recently. :(

20 (cusp 21) and 17, 1 in the industry and 1 on the race course. Can't wait to go get an après ski drink with the daughter next season. Worth every penny and effort, bring them up on skis.

No, kids yet. If I ever find a girl that loves the mountains as much as I do, and can tolerate me, that may change.

One kid, 9 year old. 7th season on skis. He can ski everything at Jay inbound or out of bound. Amazing how quickly they become really really good.

I only have one kid, err, shadow that ski's with me nearly 90% of the season. He is bordering on intermediate, but has to lose the snowplow on the steeper stuff.

He is almost as obsessive as I am with snow/skiing, which is scary:-o

i never met loafer89 but always enjoyed reading his reports. he and warren always seemed to have a great time.

At the time of this poll we had 4 (ages: 3, 9, 10, 12) that were actively on the slopes with our youngest learning to ski on his own that season (05-06) - he turned four in May of that year. Fast Forward to today - two are out of the house - one no longer has interest and lives in FL, the other in the military (stationed in Germany) and skied last weekend in Austria. The other two, well the youngest converted over to the snowboard side and is really good at it and the oldest that is at home still well - his part-time job gets in the way most of the time but still gets his turns as a Ski Instructor at Pats Peak.

I find it hard these days looking back when we were all together - with varying degrees of interest (park, backcountry, on piste cruising, glades, etc.) - even if we were all at the resort together today there would not be a common thread. We would do some runs here and there but then it would be off to greater challenges or particular interests. While I worked to create good skiers/snowboarders out of them - these days turn to helping my wife get better and better.

I skied with him a few times. Good guy. he always said he loved snow more than skiing.

I have two kids, started them each of them when they hit 4. They are 8 and 10 (in a week) now. they have progressively gotten more into it over the years so much to the point that when i wasn't getting out earlier this year they got all over me. We've gone the last two weekends in a row and they want to go again this weekend.
