Back on topic, Banff looks amazing, Austin. I'm jealous. That may be on my hit list for next winter or the one after. I would die to go to Kicking Horse on a good snow year after looking at some of those pic's on their website.

No seriously you don't want to go. Every good skier knows that the only good skiing is in utah. BTW I skied on the most crowded week of the year in cananda(school vacation week for all of canada) and I didn't wait in line for more than a 2 minutes once. You seriously don't want to go;)

Hahaha, well what happened to the skier food chain?

Europeans look down on BC who look down on Western US who look down on NE US who look down on Mid Atlantic.

And S America and New Zealand are too busy smoking up and herding sheep to realize there's skiing anywhere else.

Actually, truth be told, once I get more into back country AT stuff, I'd love to do day trips from Golden or Banff to any of the surrounding moutaings, Glacier Park, Banff Park, Jasper Park, etc. etc. Google Earth leads me to think the back country possibilities in that area are nearly endless.

Nice pics. I was there 2 years ago, loooong trip to get there, about 20 hours. Delerium looks like it's name, was closed though, lack of snow. Good to see you at least got some. Would like to hit Kicking Horse some time.

Not really looking down on utah, i love utah. But it just seems that all people on forums talk about now. Sure you have 500 inches of snow a year, but I would rather ski somewhere with way less people and that is way more remote. In Banff you feel like your in the wilderness, in the cottonwood canyons you feel like your in a larger, more mountinous central park. Don't get me wrong, I know the skiing in utah is usually better and more consistent, but IMO skiing is NOT the whole reason for the trip.

About the BC/AT in the area, all I gotta say is bring a rope. Those peaks are scary...

No, no, I wasn't implying you were looking down on Utah. I understood exactly what you meant.

And bring a rope? Scary? Sounds more like too much fun... Harnesses, rope and ice axes ready to go.

No this has actually been a pretty good year for them, really good compared to last year.

Who told you that ??? It's been warm and hadn't snowed for an entire month at one point. Last year was much better by the end of Jan. Whistlers snow year is kicking last years....

Knew I shoulda googled it...was just working off memory....envisioned it as a member of the Hawk or Falcon family for some reason. My dad would not be impressed :(

Ah don't feel so bad. The only reason I know about them is my great uncle for years was a logger in the Washington, Idaho, Montana region and I've heard plenty of stories about the area. He was a big time environmentalist... a strange sounding combination at first but apparently he worked for an outfit that only logged according to the selective/perpetual yield system.

Holy crap...if the Utards saw this quote they would have a heart attack!!!!! ;)

Snowbird hardly seems like mid-town Manhattan though (see thumbnail below).

Or Snowbasin: http://www.pbase.com/jhuddle/image/55596284

Now Deer Valley on the other hand............. ;)

Jan. and early feb rocked in Banff, trustme I've been keeping track. Last year absoluty sucked for them. If I have time I'll find the vids for the big mountain contest from lake louise for this year and last year. This years coverage is 10 times better. Lake Louise and Kicking Horse are already at or a little above there yearly average in snowfall and they still have all of march.
