I ski Belleayre every year in April, and they are still making snow, as always, now in March.

I remember hearing rumors that they wouldn't operate in April this season (which doesn't make any sense, they have a TON of snow and are still making it). Can anyone here confirm that Belleayre will operate this April?

I hope it doesn't come from the NYS budget... We're cutting back healthcare at this point..

1. Actually thinking they came in under budget do to 6 week cold streak "diesel was cheaper and didn't use any were near full capacity" and may be operating with a surplus/profit.
2.Not to say the sky is falling but everybody is pretty much screwed at this point and its going to get worse.
3. Think we high jacked this thread.

If they have their own $ then i say stay open! - and well done!!!!

But if someone has to suffer because a ski area wants to stay open using State $.... well... thats not cool... The people that have businesses there will suffer but at this point the NY is scrambling for cash...

And it is really the thread... Whats happening with $ is what determines who stays open..

I also have been skiing at Belleayre the last 4 seasons in April. Spring conditions there have been awesome. It does appear Belleayre will close on 3/28/09. You can no longer count on Hunter being open into April. Hunter has been closing very early April with lots of base left on the main trails due to the low number of skiers at that time of the year. However Mount Snow is willing to stay open til very late April. Last year Mount Snow stayed open daily throughout all of April and opened on the 1st Fri., Sat., and Sun. in May.

its a shame because i make no less than three trips to bell in april. the area is going to lose some good money.

if you feel so bad... come to Hunter and stop by those places... You'd still be skiing and still be helping the area!

while that would be the right thing to do. im not going to go 40 min out of my way to stop get gas and sandwiches. in all honesty i really like spring at the bell. its the way i wrap up my season in the cats. i would rather drive the extra hour to vt than go to hunter.

3/28?? That would be a damn shame.

After looking on the website I saw this: http://www.belleayre.com/promotions/events.htm#super

April 12 is the long drive competition it says, is this up to date? If Belleayre closes that means I will get no days in april, as it is the only place that is truly affordable. I thought April 10th was a $25 day? Atleast that is what the site said back in October, what a shame. They shouldn't close with so much snow, it would be pointless, they usually don't care if they are losing money anyway.

I now pronounce you disingenuous..
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I thought all you Bellheads cared about local businesses but now I know they were mearley some sort of excuse to get your personal way... Man was I wrong - i was really starting to take your side - but now i know - you use the suffering local businesses to get your agenda across...

Intermediate skiing close to home... vs. Saving the sandwich shop...
Hatred of Hunter... vs. Saving the sandwich shop

HOW LAME?!?!?! And frankly pathetic...

i tell you what - come up to Hunter - buy a sandwich on rt 28 and I'll give you a lift ticket to Hunter...

Now we know the real story...

The shame to HardLine is NOT that the local businesses are taking a hit...
It's his own personal/selfish loss of intermediate spring skiing near Jersey...

Why do you care? You pay the same in taxes no matter what, and the state has the right to with it what they please. Go ahead and protest it won't do any good.

Plus, keeping Belleayre opening as long as possible is a great reason to spend tax money.

Maybe we should all ask DMC what his favorite sandwich is, take Rt. 28 towards Belleayre, get a sandwich along the way and take Rt. 214 to Hunter! It's about the same distance as going up Rt. 28 to Belleayre.
