Hunters closing April 12th

If the weather is nice they are holding a first ever sunrise service at the summit on Easter Sunday. There is an incredible base on Hellgate, Ike and Racers.

Why do you care? You pay the same in taxes no matter what, and the state has the right to with it what they please.

It's my tax $... Thats why I care... What are you like 12?

The state has absolutely no right to do what they please with my $...

I'm not protesting... Cause it aint gonna happen... the state has spoken... Bellearye closes for the season because they have no $... simple...

Hunter, Windham, Plattekill, etc.. Would have to do the same...

a small portion of that $ is yours...just as a small portion is mine. And if NY state tax money is going to get pissed away anyway (which we both know it will) why not have it go towards getting people to enjoy a great sport? I know that you will disagree, but you're not the only NY state taxpayer...its OUR (as in every ny taxpayer) $.

So - use your vote... thats what it's all about.. I'm down with your a taxpayer and Belleayre skier... i tend to be more politically vested then most people - so i like to be involved...

I'd prefer - at this moment in history - that all our State budget go to necessity.. . things that keep people alive...

I absolutely do not want my "small" (which I debate) amount of tax $$ to go to a ski area when it's questionable weather the state govt can cover healthcare and unemployment to get people though this financial crisis...

It's just as affordable to go other places...

Fact is... If Belleayre makes it budget... they can do what they want... But fiscal irresponsibility is not something I'm signing on for... And I'm not going to sit by and watch my tax $$ supplement a bunch of people from another state who lie about caring about the local economy.

wasn't trying to question how much taxes you pay..just making a generalization and I hear what you're saying. Belleayre gets criticized because of it's local competition..I haven't heard a single complaint about Gore and Whiteface, which unless I'm under the wrong impression, use our tax dollars as well. If this is the case, is their season getting cut short? My apologies if I am wrong about them.

Gore and Whiteface do not face the same competition as the Catskill areas.. They run in the "black" - Belleayre falls short of even breaking even...

Now we know the real story...

The shame to HardLine is NOT that the local businesses are taking a hit...
It's his own personal/selfish loss of intermediate spring skiing near Jersey...

look at it this way. i like to go to the bell in spring, not hunter and not windam, due to the states decision to close early my skiing dollars are going else where. i dont really like hunter or windam so they are not options(like hunter more than windam). its not a mater of how close but where i like to be.

another example would be if stowe closed would i go to to smuggs? nope i would probally spend more time and money on trips out west. smuggs is not the product i want to spend my hard earned money on.

it is a shame for the local economy as they no longer have a product i want to purchase. so i need to find the next closest supplier of what i am looking for. in spring that happens to be lazy days of cruising and drinking beer on the deck.

3/28?? That would be a damn shame.

After looking on the website I saw this: http://www.belleayre.com/promotions/events.htm#super

April 12 is the long drive competition it says, is this up to date? If Belleayre closes that means I will get no days in april, as it is the only place that is truly affordable. I thought April 10th was a $25 day? Atleast that is what the site said back in October, what a shame. They shouldn't close with so much snow, it would be pointless, they usually don't care if they are losing money anyway.

The Belleayre website calendar of events has the "long drive competition" scheduled for Sat. March 28, 2009.

Current nys census is approx 19,000,000 people.

Belleayre budget was $9,000,000.

Price/tax per person is $2.12.

Even if we cut census to 6,500,000 it is now $6.36 per person in taxes. This is if they operate at a complete loss"stayed open all season and no one showed up".So lets say they made $6,000,000 in revenue at 6,500,000 tax payers"this number is just people does not include corporations".Now 6,500,000 people are covering a $3,000,000 deficit at $2.16 per taxpayer. Now throw in revenues from all the companies in NY state paying taxes and i believe we are now all bitching about something less than $1.00.
Am i the only one who see this as a non-issue.

He may or may not "care" about the local economy, in an altruistic sense, but his point is valid. If the mountain he likes, Bellayre, is closed, such that Hardline does not make any of his trips up that way that he normally makes, in April, the local economy does lose out, compared to last year, presuming Hardline spends money in the local area, buying sandwhiches or filling his gas tank or, my fave, buying discounted end-of-season ski equip.

Not at all, welcome to the club (or may I join it?).
Count me in, to the Belleayre is a non-issue for tax payers club.

I have a hard time believing most of the anti-Belleayre facts DMC has written. Hunter and Windham profits may be going up or going down. Nodbody really knows. Until Hunter and Windham publish their finances including Real Estate sales, Hunter and Windham have to stop whining. This is a non-issue.
