New York state contributed a couple of million dollars toward the building of Hunter Mountain's Learning Center. That is not a "conspiracy theory". Our tax dollars at work.

Current nys census is approx 19,000,000 people.
Belleayre budget was $9,000,000.
Price/tax per person is $2.12.
Even if we cut census to 6,500,000 it is now $6.36 per person in taxes. This is if they operate at a complete loss"stayed open all season and no one showed up".So lets say they made $6,000,000 in revenue at 6,500,000 tax payers"this number is just people does not include corporations".Now 6,500,000 people are covering a $3,000,000 deficit at $2.16 per taxpayer. Now throw in revenues from all the companies in NY state paying taxes and i believe we are now all bitching about something less than $1.00.
Am i the only one who see this as a non-issue.
I do not want a dmc/hunter/windham bash a thon to start.I just want know if the numbers are correct why is everyone got pantys in a wad.Its not just here on forum.
Numbers are down at belleayre and hunter ,Anybody who skiis these 2 areas know it.As far as true skier counts only belleayre publish's.
If they have their own $ then i say stay open! - and well done!!!!
But if someone has to suffer because a ski area wants to stay open using State $.... well... thats not cool... The people that have businesses there will suffer but at this point the NY is scrambling for cash...
And it is really the thread... Whats happening with $ is what determines who stays open..
I believe Hunter is actually up compared to previous years.
I just book an extended weekend at Belleayare for 3/18 to 3/22 for an average of $71 a night, room and ticked included. I didn't really want to go away those date, as I'm going to miss pond skimming at Blue, but Mrs Root has an insane travel schedule for her job and this was the only time we could really get away.
Don't know if this is old news. Belleayre web site site says "It's official, we will be open into April"!
just read this thread, great disscussion. i do have a question for you dmc. it seems your passionate about where your taxes dollars go and the people that may be suffering out there, excellent attitude. the question is i don't know what you do do for a living but i have seen that you play in a band at gigs all over up there. be honest, are those cash gigs or does the owner give a check from the establishment. when i played in a band it was usually half the door and a flat rate for the night. most times cash. no taxes paid. hunter and bellayre are virtually the same distance from nj if you consider that people take the thruway to get there. from my house hunter is 106 miles bellayre 102. i go to both and stay at both.
Sorry... But I'm not comfortable starting that conversation with the dogs at my door... And how we get paid is usually negotiated so I don't want to talk about that...
All I'll say is... We play for fun... We don't make much.. Any reporting of income at my level of playing usually comes in at a loss..
I have a very good job in real life... I'd be willing to play a charity gig for the businesses around Bell to help out if needed...
from Phoenicia Times-
He went on to note that while he’s still planning on closing down Belleayre at the end of March, he’s also considering appealing for a later close should the weather stay cold. He also noted that, despite a halved advertising budget and later start than usual, Belleayre had been having a “very good year,” on a par with a six year average if behind last year’s bumper income.
“Our revenues will exceed our expenses,” he said, carefully. “WE were helped that the fuel costs dropped, cutting our snowmaking expenses.”
He said that the recent talks with Hunter, Windham and Plattekill had left him enthusiastic about better years to come.
“We’re all realizing that together we CAN compete with Southern Vermont,” he said. “After all, we’re all dealing with the same region’s economy. We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do…”

bro i totally understand and did not mean to pry. i was just trying to make a point about how alot of people now have second incomes and rely on that heavily while paying taxes. the pulpit from which we speak on issues must be from an honest standpoint or its empty. i know it depends on how popular you are for any income of real significance to make any real difference. hell i know i never made that much. just enough for the gas, a few road crew friends that helped. and a doobie or two. it was just the point. i'll shut up now. with that said when's your next gig maybe i'll get up there and check it out.
