Heavy rain caused manmade snow to break loose and avalanche into the lodge, breaking windows and doors.

That's a new one.

Some Thoughts on the Belleayre (New York) Avalanche

Yesterday afternoon, I learned via social media feeds and news reports of a possible early Christmas morning avalanche at Belleayre Mountain...

Nice to hear. Clearly they prepared for crap like this when they built Overlook, it was their original lodge along with their single chair.

Don't know if they built it for an avalanche but its old and pretty sturdy. Hopefully they get it cleaned up and fixed soon. The cliff lodge at Snowbird and some others over in Utah..They are built for avalanches. Old European hotels have avalanche vaults to hide in. This is definitely the first avi to hit Bell for sure. Margrettville got wiped out years ago from flooding. Lost one of my favorite bakery's.

Was the flooding during Irene? Hit Fleischmanns pretty bad too
