Wow you timed it right....both should get clobbered tonight and the next day or two. I would pick the one that has the easier drive off the thruway!

Too bad I gotta work tomorrow......

Bell is an hour up 28...Hunter a little less up 32 and 23 but they do have that switchback to get through. I'm hitting Hunter as they have better trails...now Plattekill for friday should be killer as they are closed until then...and that where I'll be!!!

I skied Belleayre today and it was great, probably about 4 inches fell while I was there. Tomorrow is $20 lift tickets at Bell.

Yeah, i'm aware of that, that's why i was leaning to go there. i guess it all depends if the kids have school or not. i would imagine they would in west milford. might be a delayed opening. if so its the Creek.

The Hunter web cams are down. Windham's cams are showing big snow. This was the day to bag work. Tomorrow morning might be a tough drive from north Jersey.

I'll be heading up saturday morning. The crew likes ungroomed snow, trees, and natural jumps. Hunters cool, but we're really up in the air over whether to hit plattekill or belleayre. Will plattekill be skied off by saturday?

I'm in a similar boat.. heading up Friday to stay near hunter, but with all the snow am considering a visit to Plattekill (never been before).

Any predictions on Plattekill conditions for saturday or sunday?

I was at Belleayre today from 10 - 2 (had to come home to work). They got a lot of very heavy, wet snow - more than 18 inches of the heavy stuff in some of the woods/glades. My friends and I still had a reasonably good time (thanks to fat skis/snowboards). The cut-up snow was very grabby (due to the moisture content), and the untracked was very slow. Carnage everywhere on the trails.

I suspect that Belleayre will groom out the usual runs (they had already groomed out one half side of most runs) and leave the moguled runs as is. If the temps drop, it may get very interesting....

I doubt the other resorts got champaign powder out of this, but at least it beats ice. And it will build up base for extended spring skiing!

I think its going to be tough everywhere especialy when the second storm blows in.....guess I'll find out tommorow at Hunter. plattekill will not get skied off with this much snow as it gets very little traffic no matter what.

Platekill usually opens for major storms - I would check

Report from Hunterskiscene blogspot below from Today (Wednesday) -

What can I say?
24 - 26" on the ground and still snowing tho it is now very wet snow with base temps around 38. There were many power failures in the area including the base lodge, Hotel, Colonel's Chair Condos and Tannersville not to mention cable TV and internet outages. Most have now been restored but subject to intermittent stoppages. Only lifts B & F were running until around 10:15 when the quad finally got dug out and cleaned off. Skiing was very difficult due to the wetness of the snow - like Sierra cement (ass kicking) - and only those areas that had been groomed early were easier to navigate: Eastside Drive and H-B-K only. Z was getting ready to open around noon time but let me tell you that even the best skiers at Hunter with fat skis and snowboarders had trouble in this stuff. The chopped up areas became bumpy very fast as the wet snow compacted. Visibility was poor and it was foggy and a bit misty in areas. I had more fun yesterday when the snow was a lot drier. More snow is forecast per below and there is no where to put it. All roads are slowly getting cleared as is the main parking lot and all schools were closed as were many businesses. There were quite a few people here but most did not last long on the slopes. It is raining from Palenville on south so only we here on the mtn top have the heavy snow. Skiing should be great tomorrow once it all gets groomed out. Westway # 44 should be open this pm for the first time this year (and last year).

Hunter was outstanding for those who could handle it... People that know how to ski/ride the heavy stuff AND understand the consequences of their terrain choices.

The snow was thick.. You could see the blue inside the snow if you stuck a pole in it from all the moisture..

But if you could get the speed up and hit it untracked - it was awesome! I was dipping into tracks for speed and then back into the deep for turns... At first the quad was down due to power outages. The lights were out in my locker room.. people were bitching - I used my IPhone as a flashlight and got geared up quickly...

The lifts that were open were B initially then F.
I was taking B up and walking over to Ike for fresh..

F opened and got crowded... Took a couple Lower Ks and K28s then saw the Quad was open..

I stuck it out for a while then had to head back to work. Was waiting for Westside to open.. I missed that... not a problem...
