Rumor is west side will not open this season, all races were cancelled for season...lots of layoffs and if there was a major dump and real winter weather were to come back there would be no employees there to handle all the lifts, grooming, ski patrol, parking, shuttles, ect, ect ...Wonder who else is waiting for an early spring so it all just comes to an end.

Yeah, I have many freinds on the racing team there and many who help with the park (or lack there of this year), and they told me the same things. Gotta stay positive though...

Tomahawk was quite empty today ;) I was just commenting to my friend while riding lift 7 past the mid-station, reading the sign that points to Tomahawk lift, "I wonder if they will get to open Tomahawk at all this year..." I still have hope.

I was there today - pics and comments at my blog http://skiingbelleayre.blogspot.com

Yeah, tomahawk sure was empty. Snow was good Sat. though. Sucked that it was hard to see up top though. Winnisook was nice. I skied with skidbump and mrs. skidbump in the morning, until the fog rolled all the way down the mountain (then we retired to the bar). It was the 6th best day of the year, just ask skidbump :)

By the sounds of things it's not likely lift 8 will be open this year. Apparently the mountain has laid off a lot of lift attendants as well as groomers. If things turn fast and we get some snow I think it'll be a different story but as of now I wouldn't bet on 8 being open at all.......

The rental compressors also go back in the beginning/middle of February. If we don't have a good base by then, it's all over.

Here's hoping we'll get a few inches of lake effect in the next week or so along with a decent size dumper. Will be a big jump to opening some terrain.

EDIT: Just got smart enough to click on "Page 3." Didn't see it before. I guess my post just echoes skidbump, although I do think if we get some snow and winter conditions, they'll be turning lift 8. A lot of ppl will be pissed off if there's a bad winter but then they have the opportunity to start 8 and they don't. I bet if the opportunity presents itself they'll be getting employees to run it one way or the other........guess we'll see........

Well... Dot Nebel is open, they are blowing on the crossovers and Seneca, and some of the other trails over there are opening up (I can't remember the names, but the trail to the left of Tomahawk lift is open from midstation down, and they are blowing on the top of it (maybe that's Seneca?)... Hopefully they will continue to open trails over there, Dot is one of my favorites at Belleayre, and on crowded days like this weekend, the West side is a blessing- NEVER any waits longer than 2 minutes for the lift (on Sunday, no longer than maybe 2 or 3 chairs).

Was skiing Dot and lower Seneca on Sunday. My "trip report" and photos are here.

Just posted a couple photos from the top of Dot at this other post.
