They'll most likely have the usual suspects, Cheif, Comp Crossover, Lower Comp, Top Notch and then probably Exhibition. That's the usual for early season.

from a Berkshire East Patroller.......

It usually takes them a while to get Upper Comp open so I doubt they'll have that open day one but that will be next on the list since that is heavily used by the race program. What I mentioned above is their usually opening trails if you look back over the past few years. Only time upper comp was open on day one was 3-4 years ago when we opened the mountain with a foot of fresh POW!! Man that was a great day.

There have been a lot of snowmaking pipeline changes in the last two years that I won't go into detail about, but the net net is that Upper Competition is likely to open Saturday.

Well I won't get into a pissing match here. True they've added a lot of snow making capacity over the last couple of years and some work has been done this year in that department so we've yet to see what the outcome will be. I guess we'll know on Saturday!

One of the biggest changes is that the base area is separated from the rest of the snowmaking. In other words, while trying to open Upper Competition, pressure would be lost trying to cover Top Notch/in front of the lodge. This is now done via two new base loops. Since Berkshire East has a relatively large base area compared to other ski areas its size (big enough to hold nordic races!), this is a sizable gain in upper mountain snowmaking. Add in a bunch more Polecats and it's a decent change. I hear there are some of the biggest piles of snow ever on the Bobcat area, for instance. Haven't seen it first hand, but will tomorrow.
