I've decided Beethoven's 5th should be the soundtrack to a ski movie. It's got everything- the music just sounds like snow a lot of the time. Great build ups, amazing releases. It'd be perfect.

What's your choice?

OK, so this is sort of like your choice of great make-out music, right?

Hmmmmm - I was always partial to "Diamond Dust" by Jeff Beck from his album Blow by Blow. Fantastic instrumental piece, lots of ups and downs, fabulous climax and coda............ummmm - this was my favorite make-out piece my freshman year in college.......Warren Miller could use it easily.....

i don't think one song could ever be choosen. music really needs to fit the mood/theme of a ski movie, or at least the mood/theme of the current segment. there's a lot of great GREAT music that just doesn't fit into a ski movie ANYWHERE. and there are great GREAT ski movie tracks that just wouldn't fit in certain scenes. gotta have everything working together.

Jimi H - Voodoo Child

I have a hard time imagining something as dramatic, dynamic, and perfectly orchestrated as Beethoven's 5th being background sound for something like skiing, a past time I've always associated with recreation, relaxation, spontaneous off the cuff and total irresponsibility.

Also add to my list, basically anything Soundgarden.

you have a dry sense of humor, and love soundgarden. You are my new hero :D So what other music you like?

Haha, we'll have to never meet then, or you'll be sorely dissapointed.

Anyway, I listen to kind of an ecclectic mix... I like old guitar stuff like Hendrix, Dylan, Zepplin, Frampton, Clapton, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray...

I really love the Seattle grunge, (listed to Temple of the Dog through about 60 times) and some of the SoCal stuff like Eve 6. Audioslave of course.

Foo Fighters, Three Doors Down, sometimes DMB, Maroon 5, Coldplay, they're all good in my book.

And on the flip side I'm a big fan of big band stuff (ok, well really only Leroy Anderson) and a lot of Romantic period composers (mostly the piano composers) like Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Rossini, von Weber and others.

I am one odd duck.

I like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Stones, Zeppelin, Bad Company, The Doors (actually listening to "Love Her Madly" as I type this), Deep Purple, CCR, David Bowie, Queen, J. Geils Band (gotta love beantown bands), Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, The Who, and ZZ Top. So I like a lot of old music. Plus I like newer music. Linkin Park, Reel Big Fish, Dr. Dre (older stuff), NWA, Run DMC, Eminem. Pretty much anything.

The best song that will never have a ski movie set to it is Aqualung by Jethro Tull.

The Audio Slave CD is pretty sweet...
I'll have that on the player when I ride this winter for sure...

I think some of the best stuff to ski to is Steve Morse(Solo and Dixie Dreggs)... Pounding guitar based instrumentals...
Pretty sure one of his songs (Cruise Missle) made a "plot" based ski movie like Ski Patrol.. Can't remember which one..

I just had a thought-

I'd like the tune Bidibodi Bidibu by Bubbles as the soundtrack to a ski segment.

For those that don't know, this is the techno tune from Super Troopers that is always playing in the Porsche.

Of course I shouldn't have to tell many here that, what with all the Vermonters we have and everything...

Marc, if you like Eve6, have you tried Lit and Stroke 9? Similar stuff.

How about Rush's "Afterimage" which actually mentions the imagery of skiing...

I used to have "YYZ" on a mix tape I used while skiing...
Still one of my favorite Rush compositions..

The reason I was never a big fan of rage wasn't because the political invocations but more because I just was never into any kind of rap.

I like both Audioslave discs. I think the format, or style of Audioslave's music is more suited towards Morello's solo's now. Not sure if he adapted to fit the style with more legato and dynamical changes than his old choppier rage stuff, but it fits Cornell's vocals like a glove.

Rushski, I have listened to, and do like Lit a great deal. Never heard of Stroke 9, I'll make sure to check them out.

I started listened to Eve 6 after Rondevous was played ad naseum, mainly because I discovered their other music by watching Out Cold...
