So what places (other than tucks of course which Ill be hitting Easter weekend) usually hold the most snow after the lifts close down? Im hoping Whiteface will still have some decent snow from the summit once the lifts close but does anyone know of other places?

It's mostly about elevation and exposure (although stockpiled manmade doesn't hurt, either). Western Vermont peaks above 2500' or so should still have pretty decent snow for at least another week or two, although that's highly weather dependent (I went for a run after work today and it was almost as much work to ski the heavy, crusty, and largely untracked stuff on the way down as it was to hike up). Mansfield might be a decent bet, but remember to stay away from the fragile stuff up top (as state-owned stuff gets closed during the spring in the interest of environmental preservation).

What are ski area's policies for this? I took a hike up Belleayre the other day, but the lifts were still running and there were patrollers on duty. I can see some potential nasty liability issues for "off season" hiking. I fully plan on it but I'm just wondering what the official policies are.

Good thread. I may try to get up to Hunter and ski Hellgate. DMC's pictures from last June put this bug into my head. I'm a bit hesitant, as my shoulder really isn't fully healed and I'm quick to think that I am tempting the ski dharma gods.

look for northernly facing slopes at upper elevations that receive a ton of snow making. superstar at kmart is worth looking into. jay peak on the jet side does well from my experience last year. if you don't mind hiking, the top part of sbush north holds some snow though you might need to hike the run out once things warm up. given the late season snow fall, i imagine upper elevations will hold out okay but some up hiking may be required after the lifts shut down. terrain parks are another good place to look, you can get a couple hundred feet of narrow skiing/riding down the top parts of old half pipes long after everything else has melted. be creative :D

Mont Sante Anne's north side holds snow well into May and June if you are going to Quebec City for any reason. K-Mart is an obvious option, and I think I've heard of people hiking up Sugarloaf in May too.

I usually ski Jay a couple days after the lifts close every year. The Jet holds snow real well and is usually the last run to lose top to bottom coverage. Some years it will last into June, last year you could ski top to bottom til about mothers day. April 29th last year it snowed 8" and had a great late season pow run, 1st one down the Jet!
