What ski resort is the best run in the East. Snowmaking, lift line management, lifts and terrain are well maintained, ease of parking, food & drink, friendly and helpful staff, ski shop, getting your lift ticket, lodging, etc.

The resort can be any size or any place, they just try the hardest to please their customer base.

I'd have to say MRG, probably b/c the employees are so passionate about the place and it's small enough that the span of control for the relevant managers isn't too great.

MRG was the first place that came to my mind as well. let me think for a few moments about other places........

........nope. i can think of several places that are well managed and run well but no other place that stands out as 'great' and 'the best.' as i often cite, a lot of what makes MRG so good is the ownership situation. additionally, having people working for the area that "own" a part of the mountain and ski area also makes for special treatment.

best lifties in the business, best web site in the business, best snow reporting in the business, great base lodge that is kept clean, excellent service at the ticket window, etc. i could go on. but i shouldn't forget the extra helpful parking attendant making sure there are enough spaces for everyone to enjoy!

I really only have a NorthEast base to work from. I'm most impressed with Sunday River.
They stick to the theory of making snow and letting it set for a while then grooming and then opening. I like groomed trails. The grooming is excellent. Lift lines. ... Its spread out enough that you can find a place to hide.
The food still has a long way to go. I can bring my lunch.
They still have a message board that responds to its members. Very tight ship, but the rules are upfront and clear. The Web site is updated frequently. Ow ya they can make snow!

I have sent the Season Pass office E-mails and have gotten responses. I have asked operation questions and got answers. That is all I ask.

I too like MRG...HP where the hell is "Stinky" i meam Ghostrider?

He was posting on the RSN Sugarbush forum until it closed. He use to raid all the RSN forums in his quest to antagonize people, but I've never seen him post in any other ski forums. I wish he would post here, although he'd probably have to tone down his act a little.

In terms of how the mountain is operated I think:

MRG
Okemo
Stratton
Recently Sunapee

are fine tuned operations that could improve in some areas like the funky Men's Room at MRG, but are models for the rest of the New England ski areas. The employees at these areas seem to enjoy their jobs and act like professionals.

The best run resort that I've been to would have to be Pats Peak...smaller, but well run machine. They were very good in making us feel welcome at every level. Lifties were friendly and informative. Manager was visible and psyched to get any advice/input. Facilities are clean and new or modern. Snowmaking and grooming is good and you can call up and get a live person to ask about conditions  Very well run resort.

Second best would be Jay or Burke. Jay's President, Bill Stenger, is one of the best in the business. As for Burke, they've worked tirelessly to keep the place running and to work with the locals.

Sunday River also gets props... :D

So many that I've not visited and can't reasonably evaluate but I agree that Pat's is very well run -- they may not have the snowmaking infrastructure of many places but it's one of the friendliest places I've skied Everything just works there.

Though I hate the crowds at WaWa it seems to be very well run from a business perspective -- they do a good job with snowmaking, grooming, etc. Not that I care (actually I'd prefer they didn't have it when I think about it) but they have large and well maintained terrain park.
