I'd say Vermont. A lot of good mountains and great overall snow quality. I'd move there if I could just uproot the hubby....

....though I think I could even dial up the ugly a few notches personally. Sort of a neon-lovehandle nightmare ! Feel free not to conjure up an image.....

I think that might be an '80's Lichtenstein National Team suit. A teammate at U-Lowell had one. (It was 1986 afterall.)

This pic courtesy of some guys from the St. Mike's ski team a couple of Junes ago at the top of Airplane.

Vermont. 250"+ from Kmart northwards.

For intermediates looking for groomed terrain, there are plenty of good options anywhere in New England.

Vermont, hands down. So many good places to ski, and they are all relatively close to each other. Maine would come in first if they had more places to ski, and they were closer to each other. New Hampshire is just ok. If i wanna get away for a day or to I guess I'd go there, but the only resort I really enjoy is Wildcat

You might want to move the 250"+ line a bit north of killington.

I'm curious as to why you feel that Maine would be the best if it had more ski areas. Don't get me wrong, I lived in Vermont close to 13 years and have spent just shy of two here in Maine and can definitely say, Maine is my preference for living year round.

I guess for me, it all boils down to natural snowfall and Vermont has every part of the northeast beat in the catagory outside of maybe the plateau west of the Adirondacks, which is a waste as there's no decent mountains there.

Now, if for some reason the weather patterns shifted such that the Whites got as much as Northern Vermont and development was allowed on the 4500+ mountains in the region, NH would take the cake. Everytime I drive through there I always think to myself, what a waste of huge mountains. Though I'm sure the backcountry purists love it that way.

I haven't been to Wildcat since they took out the Gondi. It I should get back with some good snow are theere are some good slckcountry opportunities.

I do always enjoy the view of Wildcat from some of the those really "ok" places to ski in NH. Like:

It's such a shame that NH doesn't have any good places to ski.

Just joining in here, but in my experience, it is Vermont, hands down. NH does have the Presis, but with regards to variety, snow, lift access, etc., VT has it.

Best snow......great people.......and best kept secret!

:)

Ummm. I disagree. Sugarbush valley is completely overrate, there really isn't all that much snow and the skiing is subpar. I would go to Killington, Stowe or Okemo any day over SB, MRG. Same with Jay - completely overrated, too far and not worth the trip.

My vote also goes to VT - comparing the skiing in the rest of the NE to VT its similar to comparing the skiing in Arizona, Idaho and Montana to Utah. You can find perfrectly fine skiing in the other states, but VT is kind of like the SLC area of the East I think. In that it has the most dependable snow conditions and terrain with relatively easy access.

My vote goes to Northern Vermont for the amount of snow. New hampsire has the best terrain but no snow.
That said I would never give up LP. Best overall experience

Wow your take on the best place to ski baffles me. I guess thats why the other resorts stay open.

The white are impressive, but what's great about the greens is, as someone mentioned, access, as well as terrain and snow. White face is accessable and has great terrain, but get's 1/3 less snow on average. I'll stick to my little corner of NE.

Oh I'm sorry, was I supposed to be honest and advertise to the whole world that Sugarbush and MRG are the best kept secret in VT skiing? Why don't we start a bus route from NYC to Waitsfield while we are at it and bring everyone and their mother there this winter, then we can be sure to get no fresh tracks and stand in Killington-style lift lines! :spin:

Of course Okemo sucks. Everyone who doesn't drive a Range Rover or match colors on their ski gear knows this. I'm just trying to do some smoke and mirrors to keep the crowds away from my favorite places. Sorry for the confusion.

Actually Stowe is further, but in my now failed attempt to keep the SB/MRG secret going I threw Stowe in there cause its a bit name that people recognize. Actually Stowe one of my favorite places as well, unfortunately its a bit pricey and crowded on the weekends.

Haha...throwing Stowe in there is what threw me off the sarcasim scent! Now, if you had said Stratton, I'd have picked up on the wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Maine, NH and VT all have some great skiing, by far the best east of colorado. With that said it is impossible to declare anyone superior to another.

Vermont: Best destination resorts, most snow

New Hampshire: Best variety, best value, most accessible, best scenery, the presidentials

Maine: Uncrowded, coastal storms, three of the best areas in new england all in a position to expand over the next decade

bottom line: the majority of us are lucky to have cannon, sunday river, attitash, crotched, sugarloaf, sugarbush, mrg, saddleback, burke, wildcat, killington, snow, pico, sunapee, smuggs etc, etc, etc within a days drive

none are really better than another but they all mean different things to each of us

couldn't have said it better
