Wondering what peoples thoughts are on re-opening this resort, there has been talk of it but I haven't heard any final word so i assume, not. I also heard of building 700 new homes?

Does anyone hike and ski it? I was thinking it would be a nice place to make some wide open fresh turns. Comments, Suggestions?

I luved BIG TUPPER . Nice headwalls , great snow and views .It was all thrills , no frills skiing

Used to ski it 2-3 times a week till it closed .

I've heard NO official word yet on anything from the Developer or the Adirondack Park Agency. things have been extremely quiet for some time now . Most townspeople want/need the development That said : I always thought that the environmental lobby would kill the idea .

It has slowed down certainly bcuz i think that the ski area was originally hyped for a 2006/7 opening . Too bad

I have a friend who lives in Tupper Lake and is on the board of directors at the golf club, he knows alot about the development cause their country club is trying to work a deal with the developer.

We where just talking about it last week. He says there is a part of the townspeople who do not want the development at all. So there are constant meetings with the APA and the developer to address concerns. The developer won't open the ski area without the new housing cause he knows any profit will come from real estate and the ski area can't support itself alone.

Things are going slow, but they are still hoping something will get done for next year.

Nelsap probably has lots of info on Big Tupper.

Can't imagine 700 new homes going into a re-opened Big Tupper. That sounds pretty risky to me. That was a great mountain back in the day, but it's a long way form anywhere else, and even if they re-open all 1500' of vertical, it's still not a huge draw from downstate.

Those homes sound like a great idea to me. Look at Jiminy. The real estate there has boomed and they're on 1100' vertical.

It's going to be interesting how it all pans out. The AP has the toughest enviro regs in the country for a state park so I am not surprised it has taken awhile. They once fined my father for having too many signs on his business.

I just read an article about the new developement at Jiminy....the fact that they are alot closer to the markets than Tupper might make a diference but any good developer these days spends alot of money on market research, so who knows?

Yeah, and there was a great lake view when you were skiing there . . . Some pretty gnarly terrain up at the top too . . . I loved that mountain when I was a kid

Hike worthy? I am just worried about snowmobiles tearing it up. I think it would be fun to hike a closed area for some runs
