Anyone know of a good Blackberry App for skiers? I have already checked out the REI App, but I don't like it much.

I'm particularly looking to view conditions (trails, snow accumulation, etc.) of the NorthEast ski mountains.

Thank you in advance, and looking forward to joining in on the great conversations here!

Don't know about BB, but I just got the North Face app for the iPhone, and it's pretty sweet, even utilizing twitter feeds along with the report. Pretty cool. Only complaint is it's a little slow to load.

Nice! That looks slick.

That's exactly what I am looking for, except for a blackberry.

Well atleast if your running a Blackberry, there's a much better chance from a coverage standpoint that if you find an app, it will actually work at the ski area your at that day ;)

I've skied at several resorts around the country this past year and haven't had one issue with coverage for the iPhone except at SR when I ski at Jordan Bowl and no one gets reception short of the summit.

Zing!!!

Personally, I don't get the hate for AT&T. I've never had a coverage problem outside of the 2 months at my home when I first got the phone. A tower went up, and voila. Never had an issue in the mountains. Then again, I had Sprint before, so the tin can and string would probably have me excited.

All I'm saying is that if Apple and Verizon ever get together with an iphone of their own, there will be many, many folks leaving AT&T and heading to Verizon. Even Apple publically admits that the 3G coverage of AT&T is a constant source of customer gripes

The REI ap is all I'm aware of. It's an OK ap...a little clunky. I found that just going to Mt. Snow's mobile site was a lot easier since they keep that updated pretty regularly.

I believe that. I just have never personally suffered from poor performance. Luck o' the draw.

Stowe is also coming out with its own app in a few weeks.

I'm not up on this stuff, but if you're with Verizon, maybe you should switch to the new Motorola Droid phone. It looks like there are a few ski apps available for the Android OS, so I guess they should work on the new phone. I plan to take a look at the Droid when it becomes available in a couple weeks, since my current phone is a relic my kids love to make fun of. From what I've seen of the specs so far, it looks like it might be pretty good.

Here's a link to some android ski apps:

Yes, it definitely is a customer gripe. That said, AT&T is pumping a lot of money into their Network. There was a Press Release recently about bringing 3G to something like 23 fomer Unicell areas in Vermont and MA. They catch a lot of flack because there are TWICE as many Smartphone users (ie high bandwidth) on the AT&T network than Verizon. Verizon is full of mostly teenagers who use their phones as toys, ordinary cell phone users, and a small percentage of Smartphones. If they had as many Smartphones on their network (ie iPhones), you would be reading about Verizon network issues, not AT&T.

Now, where there is "3G" coverage, AT&T blows Verizon out of the water as far as connectivity. Grab a laptop, use an AT&T 3G card versus a Verizon EVDO card, and do some tests. AT&T HSDPA offers 7.2 Mbps whereas CDMA EVDO REVA offers 3.2 Mbps. This obviously is theroretical, but the speed difference is more than noticable. This will all change with 4G around the corner (which Verizon is spearheading because CDMA is end of the road), but that's what out there now.

As for devices, Verizon has offered nothing but junk as far as Smartphones. The Blackberry Storm and Tour have been full of bugs and unresponsive OS's, even with the latest device software.

I deal with probably no less than a hundred Enterprise activated Blackberris per week, I've seen them all, from every carrier. I have a Verizon 8330 Curve and an iPhone.

/end rant.

Until the iPhone, which is something of a toy compared to the business-oriented Blackberry email machines, Verizon Wireless was pretty dominant in the business Smartphone space. ...and there aren't a heck of a lot of AT&T 3G Blackberry devices in the field.

Verizon Wireless is way ahead of AT&T with 4G. A buddy of mine is the Ericsson lead on the Verizon LTE trial in Seattle. Once the network is all IP and converted over to IMS, the data scaling issues with all the legacy Nortel and Lucent gear go away.

It depends on where you live I think. From what I see AT&T's problem is in urban areas. The complaints are coming out of NYC and LA etc. They don't have the band width to handle the volume. You can be completely stationary with 4 bars, and you loose the call. Actually AT&T has got better coverage in the adks, but unfortunately for me...I need coverage in the flatlands so it's Blackberry for me. IMO the iphone is much easier to use and has better app selection. Ultimately when it comes down to it...like the nerdy guys with the glasses says....its all about the network.

Not sure where you're getting this information from, but by far, the majority of Blackberries in the Enterprise are on AT&T. There are a lot of Bolds, a lot of Curves, and a lot of Javelins out there. Like I said, I have built more than a hundred Blackberry Enterprise environments, I have seen it all when it comes to these things.

According to M:Metrics, a mobile-research unit of comScore, AT&T had 11.8 million smart-phone customers in March, more than double the 5.1 million that the combined Verizon Wireless-Alltel had and 47% of U.S. smart-phone customers.

The top two carriers were followed by Sprint, with 4 million, and T-Mobile, with 3.7 million.

Yes, Verizon is further ahead in the 4G market. They have to be put a lot of resources into the next gen as CDMA reaches the limits of the technology.

I just searched around and still have been unable to find an App for the Blackberry that shows ski reports.

Anyone stumble upon any that I didn't find?

Also thinking of using RSS feeds into the Blackberry. Any new suggestions?

Thank You!

Thank you for the suggestions!

Those Apps download trail maps for the mountains. I'm trying to find and App that just provides snow/ski reports for the northeast resorts.

I'll keep looking....
