Do you have to buy the RFID Card in addition to the lift ticket price? Their website is not clear whether this is part of the regular "day" ticket.

I've bought 2 RFID tickets to Blue from shops right here in NNJ. Just stick it in your upper left hand side pocket and go. The system works real well.

When I went last week, I just walked up the window and paid for the lift ticket that day. She handed me what I found out to be a loaded RFID card. She told me to save it for next time, and told me that I could reload it online.

Here is my Trip Report in which I discuss my disagreement with Alex i.e. that the RFID system does NOT work really well.

I don't know about a reloadable card. I just went in paid and got the card which like I said you place in the upper left side pocket, put on my boots in the lot and walked over to the lift. I used the system before out west where when they first put it in at Solitude it had problems but it seems to work great now and I certainly had no problems at Blue.

Different experiences Jay. I was there 2 days after you (due to reading your bump report) and had no difficulties at any lift. Granted it sounds like it was more crowded when you were there. I did get semi whacked in the back of the knee when the lady in front of me suddenly stopped (for no visable reason).

I bought my ticket at Dover Sport. Nice discount and very convient for me.

BTW those Challange bumps were much better the day I was there but I could still see rements of the boulders you encountered. I agree with you that the middle section of Barney's were great.

So it sounds like you buy a ticket, and get the reloadable card. That's cool.

I believe Jay peak charges $5 for the card and then the cost of the first ticket.

I just used the system out at Alta and Solitude. System works find as long as it's not near your cell phone or other electronic devices. Occasionally, it wouldn't trip the gate. You'd just back up and try it again. Actually, I thought it was easier then when they scan your ticket (Snowbird).

Alex, I think the issues I had w the RFID were completely related to the crowds. Basically, when it is crowded enough that every chair can and should be full (and their is a lifty who is directing people to ensure this happens), the RFID should not function to hamper this from happening. But that was what was taking place, as things were a mess on the "chair side" (as opposed to the "line side") of the RFID gates.

I gotta go back to Blue on Sunday Jan 30th for a race. I'll experience the crowds then so I may change my mind. Probably going to go over one night next week so my son can ski Razors Edge (story behind that too long for here). Anyone up for bumps? maybe Weds or Thurs night next week?

Solitude was the 1st place I encountered the system several years ago. The first cards were kind of thick and bulky compared to what they use now. Maybe it was the gates that didn't work so well but I remember having to pull the card out at times to get the thing to read it. The systems now at Solitude and Alta are better.

i don't think its made any impact, good or bad, at blue's lift lines from a customer perspective. i did have to disrobe somewhat to find it to show the VIP line attendent but i was kidding her she just wanted me to undress... if day trippers can just re-charge that first lift ticket on line for subsequent visits, food and stuff thats pretty cool. i like not having ceckpoint charlie and the elimination of the fencing at the base. i was a skeptic at first but seems to be working fine at blue...

I didn't have to pull it out, just had to back up a little and it always tripped. They do mention not to keep it near cell phones.
