"Blowing out the mice" is a phrase used to describe when a ski area primes and tests their snowmaking system by making a small amount of snow, often times used as a photo opp. There is some debate as to whether mice are really blown out of the guns... ;)

I think it would have to be a REALLY small mouse to squeeze out the nozzles of the snow guns... ;)

I'm thinking mixed precip, maybe more snow at 3,000 feet, all snow higher. The forecast was enough for me to change Saturday in the Whites for Sunday in the South Taconics hiking

this is why that cannon/bretton midweek pass @ 249 is such a good deal. I don't understand why so few midweek skiers buy it.

Bob is checking in whether this is actual base building or just a mouse blowing event.
considering the forecast for this weekend, seems foolish if this is a base building event. these guys don't have enough elevation to escape the warmer temps and rainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Reminds me of the endless 1990's jokes about cleaning mouse balls. Maybe this is a new, more effecient means of cleaning mouse balls by blowing them.

Finally someone who actually knows something.

BTW Bob, Snowforcast.com is a terrible site. Use NOAA and NECN to get atleast an okay mountain forcast. Seriously the only mountain forcast that is worth anything is 'powderfreak' from UVM forcasts.

Thanks Austin for the vote of confidence. Saturday AM quarterbacking from CT looking at the MWO site at 9:15 AM

24 degrees
wind in the 75-80 range with a peak gust since 9:00 of 96.8 MPH Wind is expected to get worse today, slight lull as the storm gets closer (no pressure gradient) & then pick back up again as it changes direction

they are calling for temps there & Northern Presidentials to hit mid-30's & then retreat to the teens the rest of the weekend.

Cant get the picture in. Oh well. Anyway that pic looks pretty serious to me. While watching other mountains test snow I noticed a lot of them test in various spots on the mountains. These pics look like there blowing only one entire trail. Maybe I'm wrong???

say what you want aboue me Greg and others, but I was right about today (temps above freezing except the tip of maine and Mt Washington). I may have hyped last year (and I wasn't the only one) but this year I am being completely serious and down to earth. I am sorry if you feel my posts have a tone, but I know a little bit about weather, and I knew today was going to be a mild windy day even at the tops of the mountains. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Middle of the week looks to warm up again so a 4/5 opening IMHO is not possible. Anyway, I digress. :)

When I left the Whites today there were snow showers. Nothing major. I'm in a valley at 9am it was 42F and amazing wind. Nov 4th and 5th skiing seems a stretch again. Still prepared and plan to ski someplace. AT least the kids will be warm for the 31st.
