What's the general rule, keep 'em buckled? Does it depend on brand? I used to always leave mine unbuckled but I heard someone say once (can't even remember where) that if you buckle them when you aren't wearing them it helps the shell maintain its shape and also makes it easier to close them next time you put them on, instead of having the boots splayed open.

This...and I keep mine in my boot bag so I need to leave them bucked anyway.

Like you, I remember hearing that guidance, but can't remember where (or when). But I always buckle them up (loosely) before tucking them in the boot bag.

On the rare occasion that I ski in them long enough to get the liners wet, I yank the liners and then do the loose buckle thing. A habit.

I buckle them on the loosest notch just so they hold their shape:beer:

I always buckle them to keep the buckles from getting damaged when they are packed into the car. It also makes them neater and easier to store.

Both for shape and who wants your buckles flapping around?

I store mine loosely buckled, some end up with little to no tension. No real reason just keeps it neater. After skiing i don't bother buckling them but i do make sure everything overlaps correctly.

I learned my lesson when it took me all my strength and about 7 or 8 full minutes just to get into and tighten my boots on day one of the ski season.

<----- Now always stores his boots buckled in the offseason

I think the only real risk to a shell deforming is if they are left unbuckled for an extended period of time and/or are exposed to extreme warmth, an attic for example. I pull my liners and footbeds after every ski day and just leave them out of the boot until the next ski day which is usually within a week. Never any issues.

I tend to never pull my liners or footbeds out if I don't have to. I have boot warmers/driers (the seirus hot stix or whatever they're called). I have found that constantly removing and replacing the liners will cause too much stress on my custom (cork) footbeds (ie. bending) and I've also seen liners start to rip etc because of stresses from the shell on removing/replacing.

Good to see your post, Greg. :snow::snow::snow::snow::snow::snow::snow:

Oh, I also buckle my boots after every use.
