I know that we have discussed it here before, or at least have the press release, but the Caledonian Record wrote a good article going further into depth about Mr. Devivo and what he wants to do. Feel free to comment.

The article.

Adding the Mittersill wild area to be an official, natural state experience part of Cannon will add something unique and special to the mountain, DeVivo said.
I think you meant it would take something unique and special away from the mountain. But hey, why bother using all that promotional and marketing material to promote Cannon for what it is when you can pander to the lowest common denominator and pretend Cannon is something that it isn't. A sizable snow making upgrade would really help make Cannon more competitive. "Mittersill Wild Area"? What non-sense is this? It isn't exactly backcountry skiing over there.

In a press release issued by DRED announcing DeVivo's hiring, Cannon is referred to as "Cannon Mountain Resort," in the first sentence. That name reference is one idea being mulled as the marketing campaign is embarked on.
:-o

Except that Cannon does not have lodging on site. It is a resort in every other sense of the word, DeVivo said.
 This is pure laughable non-sense. Slope side lodging is the defining factor in what separates true four season "resorts" from other mountains. Most major ski areas already are multi-season to capitalize on tourism instead of sitting dormant for the majority of the year. This is total crap marketing.

Sorry to be so harsh, but this is about what I expected when I first saw where this guy was coming from. Lots of talk about branding and marketing, especially marketing Cannon in ways that suggest it is something that it is not. No talk about infrastructure, especially snow making. Good luck, Mr. DeVivo, I certainly hope I have the completely wrong impression from what little I have read.
