H2O. Leave the beers and the booze in the van for the ride back.
I'd leave the beers and booze back home or wherever you're staying...safety first.

I've never had a Camelbak, but I'd think that it would be tough to keep them clean if you put anything other than water in them... :p

Vodka leaves it clean as a whistle, but it's a less than ideal choice for hydration while skiing.

I'm no expert, Jim, but I'm fairly sure vodka doesn't hydrate regardless of the particular activity one is taking part in (which usually for me is "attempt to stay upright on the barstool).

This is why I don't drink it on my bike, or doing any physical activity. Or any activity. It has electrolytes, which is good, but all the energy in it comes from simple sugar as you metioned, sucrose and glucose.

Try an energy drink popular with endurance athletes, you'd like it more I think. It should be easier to digest and it slower to be absorbed, because most use long chain carbohydrates as opposed to short (sugar) so you avoid the sugar energy spike and subsequent bonk.

This is one I like from Hammer Nutrition:

I usually do water mixed with a creatine and electrolyte supplement for hydration and endurance. I'll typically go thru at least two camelbacks a ski day, which is 1.5 liters x 2, or 3 liters of fluids over 6-7 hours.

Water only. I've had some experience with bacteria in my husbands camelback from dirt bike racing and using electrolyte replacement in it. The camelback instructions say use water only, and that seems to work fine for me. :)

Do you people dry yours out after each use? I have been just tossing it in the freezer with whatever water left in it from the ride. Makes a good ice cube for the next ride.

Water is always the best bet....

I clean mine thoughouly after each use and dry it completely which isn't always the easiest thing to do... (a hairdryer helps as does propping it open by hanging it sideways with something propping open the fill valve)

I don't ski with a camelback. I don't feel that I need an electrolyte drink while skiing....but either way, I only use water in my camelback due to cleanliness as noted above.

Vodka, I think, would at least alleviate the freezing issue....although, as Marc mentioned, I don't think it would help much with hydration in the long run!
