while i have not seen or heard them flying in the winter time when skiing at cannon, i regularly see/hear them while hiking the whites during the non-snowy months. doubt the training had anything to do with cannon but low level training in the mountains seems normal.

i see a-10s up here all the time....they are badass. they follow each other, do some nice big roll turns. Sometimes at night you'll see them drop some flares. they are a old aircraft that still gets lots of work.

The A-10's fly around Cannon quite often. Also known as tank killers they can fly very slow also. Many times have seen them fly lower than where I was on the MT.One of out friends buddy flies around the Mt and puts on a show in one of the fighters. That might have been who you saw.I don't think you have to worry about them flying low enough to sever any tram cables. That's way too low. That accident in the alps happened when the fighters were trying to fly under a tram cable that was hundreds of feet in the air.

There's an ANG wing out of Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield, MA too. That's only slightly closer than the CT wing out of the Bradley Air National Guard Base in CT though. I couldn't find any ANG wings that were closer, that's not to say they're not from another branch of the military...
