When you hike over to Mittersill from the bottom of Taft Slalom and as you approach the top of the walkover there are ski tracks that go off to the right into the trees. This is about 25 yards before the place that you put your skis on to ski down to the actual Mittersill trails. I've been told that if you follow those tracks you can ski glades that are over by and above the glade Wicked Haahhd on the Cannon side. This takes you to the top of the ridge that separates Cannon and Mittersill and that it's quite steep and tight at the top. If I follow those tracks does it in fact lead to such glade. You can see them on the right when riding up the Peabody Express?

I'm looking to ski them tomorrow (Thursday) as it looks like I'm going to be able to ski another mid week day there. Anyone else going to be there and want to do them, I probably should not do it alone?

And discussing obvious shots online can still get a little dicey.

Tell you what Granite, I'll let you know all about it next year prior to a storm. That way you can steal some fresh tracks from Puck It!!!

I would not ski it tomorrow. I went by the bottom section and looked up to see how it was. This last pitch is probably as steep as the top but a lot more boulders. It was looking thin last week. And then you have to ski the stream bed out which may now be flowing.

I noticed this section on Sunday. It is very obvious when hiking the traverse. I haven't spent much time in the trees at Cannon but this look an obvious hit.

The secret stash forum is an interesting idea. I could be convinced to participate.

Maybe one of you guys could post up a map of all the off-map stuff? If you could include detailed directions, a description of the run, and names, that would be great. It would also be helpful if you could post up trail reports each time you ski/ride one. Photos would be a nice touch.
Please also keep us appraised of all of your hard work this off season when clearing new stuff. Thanks.

I seriously don't understand what all the fuss is about in revealing details of a "secret stash" over the net...

Do people really think it is truly a "secret"? Is the chance of more people getting into your "secret stash" really going to ruin your experience? Take into consideration the probabilities of everything having to align for the disclosure of such information to really have an impact on your experience....It really doesn't matter, especially considering only a small percentage of the ski/snowboard demographics want to ski/ride this type of terrain. So when you factor in the disclosure of information has led to "more people" in the know, and the knowledge has actually led to someone getting into "your stash", and that access happened to be at a time with good snow conditions (& impacting the "experience"), and you happened to be at the mountain on that given day (or following days), and it truly has a negative impact on your experience....I have to think the odds are slim to none on having any impact on your "secret stash"....

So I am all for full disclosure over the net...Let's start a new forum discussion for Secret Stashes with details, pics, and maps!!

Disagree. I know shots at many mountains that if you're not one of the first ten or so people to ski it after fresh snow, it isn't very good.

People spend years getting to know ski mountains and all the nooks and crannies. More ambitious folks will cut their own lines. So, to give that information up in public is not all that cool.

That said, I will always reveal any knowledge I have in a private discussion.

If someone can't make the effort to get to know the mountain, they can at least make the effort to get to know someone who does in order to get the information they seek.

The problem with full public disclosure of off map information is that it often leads to that terrain being put on the trail map. Cannon is a perfect example of this reality.
