I'd be interested to see if the manager's efforts to "Sunday River-ize" the place, i.e. blow more snow, groom more, and advertise more, have made a difference in terms of numbers.
From what I recall, numbers these past two seasons have been really good. But we also had two really good snow years in a row in NH so hard to tell at this point. Suffice to say that the on piste product has been significantly better than in the past. With the lodge revisions at the Peabody Base, I think the new GM has really done a lot to dust Cannon off and set it up for success.

shutting the Tram down during the week was a great idea and then funneling that money into more snowmaking. I liked that idea!!!!

If I was Cannon regular, my only real complaint with lack of Tram is that it then takes three lifts to reach the summit if you ski the front face. The one time I was there last season (the only time I've been in the past 20 years) I really enjoyed doing the full top to bottom down the front face side. Going the opposite side where it only takes two lifts to get back up isn't quite as enjoyable as the Peabody side can be pretty flat, especially trails far to the skiers left.

Seems like a good sacrifice though for improved snowmaking. I'm looking forward to seeing the new lodge. The lodge was the only glaring weakness in my eyes while there last year.

Great bar and nachos though, but a bit cozy.

The key is to do laps on the top quad then head over to Mittersill for a run then do laps on the zoomer chair

Cannon is a great trail pod type mountain. It is nice however to ski nice long runs off of one lift. Probably why I love Stowe and Wildcat so much.

Im against the shutting down of the tram midweek. I had the best ski day of my life on a 14" pow day there in college, riding the tram completely by myself 6 times in a row.

Given this story, it makes business sense, but I still dont like it.

It makes overall ski conditions sense. With a mountain that only averages 150 inches of snow, the more resources allocated to snowmaking, the better.

Check out the 3 photo on the main page montage. That new addition on the left will be the lounge. To the far right is a new addition also which will have the rentals now a ski-in ski-out setup.

Nice,

Looks like they've almost doubled the size. I was there on one of the busier days I would assume (Super Bowl Sunday) and it just seemed like the lodge was far inadequate to deal with the crowds.

The bar at one time used to be in the basement we called it the dungeon. There was more room then up on the window level. This looks like it will be a lot better than both of the old configs.

You just have to attack the mountain correctly to go top to bottom. With the tram off line, you need to just stay away from the Zoomer pod and you can ski everything top to bottom an still do laps faster with the Quad to Quad lift sequence compared to waiting for a tram. Mid-week powder potential on the tram trails is really good because you gotta hike back. That is my style. Three lifts top to bottom for Mitt runs, best mountain in the world.

You can have your top to bottom lifts, DHS. I think multi-lift is always the best for so many reasons. And mountains agree. There are a lot of mountains that went multi-lift when they needed to replace their top to bottom lift. Stowe is really unique in its setup. Probably the only mountain that a true top to bottom lift is really the best and only way to go. Wildcat? I would prefer to ski the Tomcat Triple all day (with a little exception) as I really can't stand how beat up those summit trails get because such a high volume and density of skiers hit the same runs. I think the upper third of Wildcat is just a dreadful grouping of trails due to conditions. Spring is the one exception, then I appreciate that lift. Otherwise, all the best stuff is available from the Tomcat Triple. Wish they offered a mid-mountain summit lift still... would really help out with skier patterns and conditions, IMO. I guess it would be the only way to go at Smuggs too. Never been but that seems to cause lines... but at least it is only a double which helps with skier patterns. MRG... I wouldn't change a thing but its too bad you can never load at the mid-station on the weekend except first/last thing. Love skiing the top trails.
