I was at Cannon Mountain on Saturday for the New England Ski Museum's Annual Meeting and Dinner. After a cocktail party in the museum, many of the guests traveled by Tram to the Summit for the dinner. The Summit Station has been remodeled over the summer and a deck has been built facing north from the building. Here are some pictures from the evening.

Footings of new deck. Notice alignment of beams to cement columns.

These pictures and more can be seen in a larger format on my site: http://teachski.com/skiingandother/nesm.htm

nice shots. i never received a card from NESM alerting me of the meeting, likely due to my recent moved but i did update my address. i had made plans for the weekend and unfortunately could not attend.

loving the new deck! i heard plans have been in place for a while now to upgrade the deck to make unloading the tram easier. should definitely lessen traffic on tramway and the links if more skiers get diverted to the other side of the summit station and onto profile, skylight, u. ravine, taft, and what not. it is amazing the number of people, nearly the entire heard usually, that exit to ski tramway often forgetting the summit station has two doors! aside from providing an easier exit from the station, the new deck should really help redirect traffic patterns to better distribute skiers and have less scrapage on trails that historically take a beating. besides, i bet that will be a damn nice deck the first week in april!

*sigh*

love that mountain.

Nice pics Teach! The new deck looks like it'll be nice, if it stays on the footings ;)

Yes, it was beautiful. With exception to the footings, the deck was very well constructed. I wonder though, I have a similar deck on the back of my house and it is quite slippery when snow or even water gets on it. I can't imagine walking in ski boots on it. I bet it's going to be slippery. Hopefully they will do something to help.

I didn't want to use up your bandwidth, Greg. They are on my site in full size (higher res.) I put the thumbnails on your site to wet the appetite. There are even more on my site. When you go to my site, click on the picture you want to see in full size and the thumbnail will open up...this includes the cropped and reduced size pictures.

thanks for the pics! those pics are great!

The deck footing pic reminds me of something my grandfather used to always say to me (he was a carpenter)-"Always measure twice, cut once"
