Much better! But still a long way too go. Gotta wonder if the buzz on internet forums such as this one was a catalyst for change? ;)

Snow Conditions sidebar on the front page with Surface, Trails Open (56 out of HOW MANY?!~??), and "New Powder" (should be "New Snow" as not all snow that falls is powder and new snow is the industry standard as far as I know...). Definitely a step in the right direction but not quite at the industry standard that I have come to expect. The Hotels/Flights/Cars is less obtrusive on the front page but looks WAY worse and still follow you around all over the site. The navigation on the left hand site is now relocated to the top and is consistent across the site; however, navigational words and headings are F'ing terrible (e.g. HOW MUCH?!, EQUIPMENT!, LEARN IT!, CATER IT!, etc.). First off all, an exclamation point is just retarded. Second, these are not good one word descriptors nor industry standard jargon that most skiers and riders would instantly recognize such as Rates, Tickets, Passes, Rentals, Snow Sports, Lessons, etc. I do really like the trail map link directly from the front page, trail maps are often buried. Some left hand side navigation is not styled uniformly and the nav's change depending on pages which is confusing. and why is HOME on the far right upper corner? Damn it, I have NEVER seen HOME not in the upper left as the first option or something like here on AZ with a logo that links to the home page.

If you are looking for a web design company, I would suggest avoiding Silver Tech. Based on the link at the bottom of Cannon's page "Powdered by: SilverTech, Inc." it seems like that is where this awful design is coming from. Essentially, if you want to book mark a page for Cannon, I would suggest their site map be the book mark for the easiest navigation. I haven't taken many ski areas to task over their web page but this is just really poor, IMO. Their old roll over trail map was better, I should add. And when did Taft Slalom become an Intermediate run??????? UGH.

A quick glance at the Silvertech portfolio shows some pretty normal sites. I think a certain "marketing genius" may be forcing his ideas on the designers. Lots of sites have been ruined by executives who think they know whats best and overrule the designers/usablility folks.

I remember it being an intermediate run in 04-05...
I checked an older map and maybe that is not a change. I rarely look at the map but I seem to remember the trail sign saying it was a black diamond. In any case, it really should be marked as a black diamond considering the shape it is usually in. It is especially bizarre that they would consider Taft a blue but upper hard a black. So perhaps this was unfair criticism as this is not a change for the current year. Still isn't right regardless though..

The site does look better than it did earlier this year, but I agree that it still has a way to go. I pretty much agree with everything Steve pointed out, but maybe not quite as strongly as he does.. ;)

The old interactive trail map is better than the current one, but at least they cleared up the confusion caused by the static map they put up pre-season that showed Mittersill, but didn't necessarily say there was not authorized access as the new one does...
