Blue Knob, PA - ski good or eat wood
Several of the snowy photos are from Blue Knob, Feb 2010. Wish it was that good once a year:wink: Those were some of the best conditions I've seen in the mid-Atlantic in 40+ years.
I took all but one of above photos with little duct-taped digicam.

I love Blue Knob on a good day, this is Extrovert Trail, has about 600 vertical feet of continuous steep:

I've heard the Knob is great but you have to hit it after they've gotten a lot of natural snow. Supposedly they do a poor job of snowmaking, and the mountain gets wind scoured rather quickly, so its often a sheet of ice. Good place to try though if you're in the Pittsburgh area. Seven Springs is nearby as well, and has much more consistent conditions, but is much shorter (700ft of vert vs 1000 at the Knob). I believe Blue Knob has the highest summit elevation (3000 some odd ft) and gets the most snowfall (100ish+ inches) of any ski area in PA.

Blue Knob has a much higher gnar factor than Seven Springs. Snowmaking is not too bad actually on the regular trails, but to experience the numerous and exceptional advanced glades you have to go when they've had enough natural to get them open. Many years the glades are only skiable for a couple weeks in Feb. They are not open now. They blow snow on Extrovert (the expert bump run) and it is usually open for a month or two, but surface is often sketchy - part of its mystique. BK is the highest lift served mtn in PA, just over 3000'. There is a higher mtn near Seven Springs, but not developed for skiing and nothing in that area is as pronounced/exposed as BK. Unfortunately, I don’t think BK gets as much natural as ski areas on the western side of the Allegheny Front like Seven Springs, Wisp, Timberline, Snowshoe.
Doesn't make much sense for a person from Philly or Joisey to go to BK when for the same mileage you can reach New England.

I go to PA because it's relatively close, if you can call 2 hrs "close"..... but such is my life now. I can go up and back in a day. I'd rather go further north but hotel rooms are expensive.

I take what I can get and enjoy it.

I never tried Blue knob. Its mostly blue mountain for me. Wasn't too impress with JFBB.
