What kind of car? Shop around a lot. I have a terrible terrible driving record and pay about $800 year for full coverage/$500 deduct.

Double check it is apples to apples.

It also did drop considerably when I bought my house a couple years ago.

Geico's rates have been twice as expensive as my local agency that goes through MetLife. I have been surprised that Geico has actually managed to get any customers considering the rates I have been quoted. Both in NH and VT, I was quoted 1000-1200 per 6 months but am paying 500-600 per 6 through MetLife. And yes, I verified this was a 6 month rate and not a full year.

I have it through Travellers and it's $1100 a year..I also use them for renters insurance

Same company, same price for two drivers. We also use Travelers for home owners. There is no company I have ever worked with who's paperwork requirements when you move states is such a PITA, but they had the best rates.

I'll never use Geico ever again no matter how much I like their caveman commercials.

Screwed me over big time. When I moved from Florida to VT four years ago I did not renew my insurance for a six month term with them as I had a local agent in college I wanted to use. I called to cancel. Some noob working with them screwed up the cancellation, none of the bills were forwarded and then 9 months later I receive a call from a collection agency saying I owe $750 to Geico. It took a solid months worth of arguing to get them to drop the charge and remove it from my credit report.

For car insurance, I always shop. Not every six months, but every year for sure.

If you live in Jersey, try New Jersey Manufactures. If you qualify, they pay a dividend each year.

We have auto and home owners with them. Just got a check for my homeowners dividend for $80

I have auto insurance with NJ Manufacturers. Excellent customer service/claims, which is quite contrary to what I've heard about Geico. We pay monthly Feb-Oct, then get a nice dividend check back in November that's equal to about 2 monthly payments.

NJM is able to keep their rates down by insuring only selected customers that they calculate will keep their claims to a minimum.

Look at the little things, make sure that both are apples to apples. Key things to look at, make sure that the deductibles match up, one could include glass the other could not. See if you are getting all the same credits on both. The thing w/ Geico is that they have about 150 tiers you could fall into, depends on credit score, loss history and a bunch of other socioeconomic factors. Personally I would work with an insurance agent (kinda my job), that way you may always speak with the same person, etc.. Plus, the agent can also guide you in the right direction. I have also heard great things about that jersey company.

Don't shop just on price, look at the bells and whistles of each policy, like accident foregiveness, disappearing deductibles, etc.. if they are available. A lot of times, Geico and Progressive quote one rate online and when you pay for it and submit it then they really check driving record etc.. and the premium will skyrocket.

Just shopped my car insurance since it is renewal time and it ended up dropping from $1137 to $849 for a year with better coverage thru Travelers.(Would of been $798 for the same coverage)

Not bad for a quick email.
