Ever feel like you are having a career crisis??? I own my own company and have been in sales all my life, I'm 34 and have been waking up wondering..."do i want to do this the rest of my life"?? maybe because it was rough year, there have been issues out of our control that decreased sales...just seems like the market/industry we are in is tanking. I have a computer networking hardware distribution business, we supply network integrators with hardware.......I enjoy working and the hunt of the next sale and the opportunity sales gives you financially is great (usually uncapped commish)

I like business that have recurring revnue without alot of moving parts....insurance, financial etc....i feel its time for a career change...any suggestions??

Sell the business and move out west and be a skibum...I've been at my current job for 3+ years..the money is great..I don't work that much..and one day I'll probably own the company but I have to live in Allentown PA....so I turn lemons into lemonade and spend a ton of money on skiing

My story. I figured out what I was good at. Looked at where I like spending most of my time then looked for a position that could suit my financial needs as well as my wants. Took a few years but I am where I want to be. Not to say I dont have bad days but I would not trade it for a job paying twice the amount.

If you focus on security it could be a good move..

Some good growth and $$ in that space... Plus you feel like your doing something good for people..

This is a good time to rethink your business. You should get an appraisal but be careful who you share the inner workings of you organization with. If you have solid sales skills, you are valuable in many places. I think it's harder to be profitable in many sectors right now. You may find out that you can expand your offerings to your current client base and your business will feel new again.

A career is just a job you've had for too long - WM

Completely agree. I own my own business as well, but I try my damndest to do different stuff every year. I would go stir crazy doing the same crap all the time. Find a new product to sell, it will liven things up for a little bit.

Agreed.

I had a job for 8.5 years before becoming a SAHM one year ago (just about exactly). I shudder to think that could have become a career for me had kiddo #2 not come along.

Career changes are good. Keeps things fresh. I feel like people tend to get too comfortable and wither away if they stay in the same place for too long. But what's too long varies from person to person.

That said, I have no idea what I'm going to do when the kids are finally both in school. I'm liking working part-time at the local ski hill, but that's not a career either. At least, not the part I'm involved in. I dabbled in the idea of a Recreation degree but I don't like business either.

Have you considered how you could turn your other interests into a new career?
