The Bush is planning to open the Rock tomorrow. There will be a final ski check tomorrow morning but it looks good for a mid morning start. The NWS had forecast 1-3" for us today. When I left the mountain a short time ago there was already a solid 6" and still snowing. I know Greg won't be too happy to hear this....sorry, dude. On the downside it's supposed to be very windy tomorrow so we will have to see how it all plays out.

Heard MRG is going to open a bunch of new terrain tomorrow as well.

wow, i was saying to greg today that i always feel a little cheated when i go to sugarbush and the rock isnt open. Not to complain though, cause it was really quite excellent today. Paradise was alot of fun, weird crusty snow, but alot of fun.

Rock skied sweet...

Hit liftline, Middle Earth and CR. All superb....despite kid ski school dropoff precluding any hopes of first tracks.

Supposedly the bush will have 111/111 trails open tomorrow.

Sugarbush....simply sweet.

Cool, I'm taking my son out tomorrow afternoon. I just can't decide between ME and LP. I've skied more at LP so far this year by a ratio of about 3-1, so it's ME's turn, but I've been itching to ski all that closed stuff at LP for the better part of a year. Fortunately, there's no going wrong tomorrow.

Skied Liftline and Rumble on Saturday morning, Liftline (my favorite trail on the mountain) again on Sunday. Great natural snow. Great start, we now have a base. Time for some real snow to put us in the money.

From the Castlerock portion of my wordy report from Saturday:

Met some friends on Ripcord, and we did another. Then we got the word that Castlerock was open. At the Heaven’s Gate lift, they were deciding which way they were going to go; back up Heaven’s Gate, down to Castlerock, or maybe somewhere else. They had a vote for Jester when I said that I wasn’t voting, but was heading for Castlerock. The group split, with some heading back up Heaven’s Gate and others toward Castlerock.

The line was long. It was pretty much doubled back. Many people were coming down the entrance, then heading across the bridge and to Castlerock Runout. Heard some guys saying that it was a pain the line was so long and slow. Told them this wasn’t the lift riding area. It was the skiing area. And they would find that when they were skiing, the line just disappeared, in their mind.

Off the lift, we headed for Middle Earth. The first time was a track down the center, with crust on either side. Then the crust became powder, but too deep for the slope… and then the slope increased. And then there was some of the best skiing available in the east. Still a bit of untracked on the top, but mostly it was tracked but soft and sweet, with only natural snow beneath.

Stopped for a while to help someone find his missing ski, then back onto it. We were there for about 5 minutes, searching beneath the snow, for the ski and there was one person who passed us and another who arrived just as we had found the ski and were about to get underway
