Kingslug got me thinking with a remark he posted. It basically amounted to the importance of skiing with a group of friends as opposed to great conditions. I can see the pleasure in both and was wondering what the majority would prefer. Here's the choices:

  • Fresh Powder - A day of skiing in 1+ feet of fresh untracked powder with one other person.
  • Good Friends - A day of skiing with 10 of your best ski buddies, in good conditions, 100% cover, mostly groomed, glades, etc.....
For me it's close, the pow is nice, but so is skiing with good friends that are at my level or better. This pushes me to ski more and better.

Fresh pow is great and I had to throw in one other person, because as good as it is, it's always better to share :)

For me, the choice would have to be fresh powder with my wife. How about you?

no contest, pow and a friend. if this poll had been a pow day solo or a decent conditions with a friend, it would require a little more thought. hope your wife heals in time for you guys to get some pow this year...

Powder. If they are REALLY your friends, they'll still be with you another day. Not so powder.

p.s., the two choices are a bit unfair. Then again, sometimes too is Ullr.

Based on these conditions, I would say powder with a friend. A group of 10 is too large to ski with unless you're all the same ability, and even then...

For option two, "good conditions" needs further clarification. For example, skiing with 2 or 3 others on perfect spring bumps on a 50 degree bluebird day could be almost equivalent to a powder day with one friend for me.

I should have read through Andy's post before voting. I voted "friends", but then saw it was qualified with 10 friends, all groomers, etc.

As much solo skiing as I've done, conditions being equal I prefer being out with a couple of friends. For the skiing, but moreso for the companionship for the drive/trip and the apres.

There are no friends on a powder day. But I already have my ticket to Huntah, so I'm locked in. And it's new to me, so it's go that going for it too.

Powder with 1 friend. Most times you only need someone else to share the stoke. 10? geez.

If they want to come along, great!

I'm just trying to figure out how many AZers think skiing powder is better than sex.

Sorry Marc, I know you don't have any basis to answer this question, but hang in there big guy - it will happen for you one day.

This poll sounds like a cop out to me : /

If it were "powder alone" or "ok conditions with your BFF" it'd be a harder choice...

I did pick pow+1 though.
