I would just like to throw it out there that I hate all of you that are still in college. As the time comes when school starts up, I find myself missing it really bad. Hopefully this gets better with time...

I'm 32, starting graduate work in two weeks. I just wish it came with dorm life and keg parties.

It doesn't...I still find myself looking for the beer taps whenever I go into the warehouse at work.

And once you have kids, you can start to try to save enough to send them to college...that's gotta be the worst, watching them enjoy campus life while you get to work to pay for it!

I was just thinking of this the other day. My nephew starts this week at ZooMass Amherst. I wish it were me! :-? I really enjoyed my time on campus, and I didn't party much at all. I lived in dorms, campus apartments and off-campus apartments. Oddly, I liked the dorms the most.

So JimG...
Do you got any keggerators in that warehouse of yours?
I really want one to keep a cold keg of something on tap at the house...

No, we don't carry many bar supplies. But I could look into getting one wholesale if you want.

Cheaper version might be a cold plate- a big chunk of aluminum you keep in an ice chest. The lines run through it, cooling the beer as it goes.

We used one scavanged from the Pepsi distributor when the bar switched to Coke, along with a couple of pre-mix kegs to keep homebrew on tap. Worked pretty well.

I get melancholy and do miss the social aspect of college from time to time. I do not miss the academic part of it though. Perhaps being 14 years wiser now than when I started college, I'd pick a degree that interested me a lot more (Bio major). I find it weird how a 17 year old kid is supposed to know what he/she wants to do with the rest of his/her life. Nevertheless, I would never trade what I have now in starting and raising a family to go back to my college days.

I'm starting a program at Brandeis in a couple of weeks, but that's not nearly the same. I'll be working full time and taking one class a week. The class part is what I don't miss about college. I miss having all my friends right there, all the parties, all the skiing, Wilderness Program. Well you get the picture.

indeed. though i no longer miss the social aspect as much. i lived it up in college. i left nothing on the table. and upon graduating college, i got knee deep into the boston club scene and partied hard both as a club goer and later a DJ. i have no regrets and feel no desire to relive the past.

i would never want to be a college student again. no car, no money, and lame ass classes that only prove you can get through the machine and bow down to the man for a dollar. some professions really do require some higher education, but i am of the opinion that the vast majority of professions only require a college degree to prove you can deal with administrative hurdles, make a long term commitment, and perform under preassure (namely show up to class, aka work, with a hangover). etc. also to learn to approach things with an open mind and think analyticaly. i can't remember half the academic unapplicable BS i learned in college, but i will always remember learning a system of thought, analytical patterns, stats, research, and paper writing. that is all college is really about for 80% of the people that graduate.

that said, if i was in college i would not be buying new skis and boots every year nor would i be getting 38+ ski days in a year. sure, those college passes are dirt cheap. if you want to ski one area all year and when you can actually get a ride up. hell, i was on a ski team for two years of college and ski more now than i did then, and with better equpiment.

right down the street from where I grew up. Brandeis kids all up and down my parent's street. Interesting group of people, those Brandeisians. Don't worry, you are not missing any party scene whatsoever with that school.

Dropping my daughter (freshman) off at Plattsburg State tomorrow. I'm excited for her. I hope she'll meet up with me once in awhile at Whiteface.

HPD - does Plattsburgh still go crazy on St. Patrick's Day? Back in the day we used to rip it up at the Monopole downtown or out at the Klondike in Beekmantown........

St. Patty's at St Mikes was a blast until they moved winter vacation to coincide with it to stop all the drinking. It was an all day drinking event...
