Going to be in Leadville for a few days after Christmas. Looking for an alternative to the exorbitant vacation lift prices at Vail, Copper, Breck, etc. since I'll be springing for the cost for seven people. Anyone here ever ski these two areas?

Monarch is fun...havent skied Cooper, but The Big M gets good powder from storms that track south of Summit and Eagle counties it sits on the divide though it may not have the size of vail or aspen you dont have the crowds either. Monarch does have its steeps and a lot of fun terrain and I do remember the locals talking up Mirkwood, the mountain layout if I remember brings everyone back to one area, Its been like six years I only skied it once but thats what i can offer...

Also Check into Wolf Creek last time I was out in CO Vail got about 24" out of a storm and the creek got about 80" Its more towards the Sangre De Christos than the Gore range area ..and I hear a lot of good things about the terrain there though I never skied it..ws
