That is a cool visual. I found this to be an interesting statistic:

Speedskating
The individual silver medalist who came closest to gold was Annette Gerritsen of the Netherlands, in the women’s 1,000-meter speedskating race. She lost by .02 of a second, about the time it takes a hummingbird to flap its wings.

I guess a loss is a loss but that almost makes me just think, Tie. it's so small it's almost meaningless.

Um yeah, we'll just hand out participation medals instead like Kindergarten soccer ....

It's not that small because you have a lot of the same people winning often enough that there is definitely a skill level involved in getting that extra tenth or even hundredth of a second.
