Could anything make you move out of ski country? Could a certain amount of money make you move to Florida? Could a dream job get you to move to Mississippi? Could a beautiful woman entice you to move to say…Kansas?

I guess most things have their price, but moving out of ski country would have such a distressing effect on the quality of my life that I don’t think I would.

It would have to be for a LOT of money and even then I don't know if I could do it. I suppose if it was so much money that I could afford to fly to ski country every weekend I might consider it depending on where. I don't think there's enough money to make me move to FL, I hate the heat! Even when I wasn't skiing I loved the winter and the snow. :snow:

Move Out?

If I were to win a VERY LARGE lottery prize that allowed me have homes in both warm and cold places, and unlimited travel funds, I wouldn't much care. Since that hasn't happened, I have to live near the snow.

I'd like to make a slight change if I may because people are trying to have their cake and eat it too by traveling back and forth. My fault for not wording my first post correctly.

How about if because of circumstances you where not able to hop on a jet whenever you felt like it, you would basically have to give up skiing, but you could have just about anything else you desire in life as a result of this move out of ski country. What would you do it?

I kind of thought that might be the direction you were going with this. In that case I really don't think I could do it. Winter in general is just too important to me, let alone the skiing itself.

Winter or Summer, I like the mountains too much. I'd be bored as hell without my winter and summer mountain activities - no skiing, flat mountain biking, flat straight roads... at least if it was a place on the ocean I could do a lot of kayaking...
...but still, I love the mountains and hills too much.

Ahhh, so we meet again HPD

Would the right situation make you move: Few things would supply the same thrill/quality of life/and overall fun; however, there are some pretty fun other sports that have whole cultures associated with them, that can be similar to skiing (from the culture and thrill standpoint).

For years I worked much of the year (250 days) in the Caribbean. This was away from biking, hiking, etc. What I found was I just switched gears. Went back to diving, took up kite boarding (this is a great sport--made me buy a snow kite for some later adventures in a place like Baffin) and did a lot of very remote snorkeling (like rent a sea kayak and cruise to outer islands and reefs that most can't get to). Saw great things, alone in the water with a pair of 8' Eagle rays, or swimming with hawks bill turtles, and a 6' spotted moray out of its den on the ocean floor 6 feet from me.

Although I regularly flew home to ski, I found that if push came to shove, I could get by kite boarding, hiking rain forests, and snorkeling...............and if the living situation is good, then the Caribbean can be a pretty good place to live. Chuck Patterson was able to give it up and just be a surfer.............you might be surprised.

Aw yes, AHM my arch nemesis, well I’m not surprised in the least with your reply. I’ve always suspected that you where a poser. ;-)

Well, They would have to send me in a coffin before I move South perminantly! Because taking me away from Fall and winter would be like ripping my soul out of my body. No matter how much money, no matter how many women, I would never move south forever. :)

Well, I'd have to live IN ski country first to make that decision. I live in Boston, hardly a robust, alpine location.

But seriously, it would take a truly incredible amount of wealth to cause me to move south.
Enough wealth that I wouldn't need to work, and could take winters off to live in my CA/CO/UT ski condo. Other than that, I think at 3 hours to ski areas, and 3+ to real (e.g. N. VT) ski mountains is already too damn far. I

I've been struggling for a while now with the notion of moving out west, but work/wife changes those ideas into daydreams. Wish I'd gone out there when I was a young bum, and wasted some of my 20's out there, instead of wasting my 30's here...

Don't rule out the kite....................

HPD: The kite boarding opened my eyes to kite skiing. Made me go by a wind wing 4.4...........getting all ready to kite ski across a glacier from coulior (chute for those not in the know) to coulior. Might even work to slide me across the 'face and over to the slides.................hmmm, might have to just bring the BCA tracker II when I come in to see KM et al.

So, do ya ski the beast ??? Got a big fat ski to go with the new boot line ??? Hoping to get Lew and company back to Nordica (yeah, but without Kastle................it could be hard).

While I love the ocean and the ability to go sailing when i want in warm gentle trade winds, I dont forsee myself moving to Florida, the keys or to the BVIs without the ability to hop on a plane in February and fly to Burlington, Denver, SLC, Tahoe or Vancouver. It just wouldnt happen. Gotta have the ability to get up and go places

Dream job? What's that?

I don't dream about jobs; I do dream about skiing.

Wait a minute...there are dream jobs out there...in the ski industry.

I guess simple is better...NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I know you're a wider the better fan, but to me I just don't think going real wide when I ski all but one week a year in the East makes sense.

The widest ski I have is the Top Fuel. The ski I really want this year is the SM Mach3, although I wouldn't be opposed to getting the Jet Fuel waisted at 84cm.

I own my company and have contemplated moving it to somewhere that has a lower cost-of-living many times. Many of top places in-consideration are in the Carolinas or more Mid-West which rules-out skiing.

Which rules them out!
