So Ginn Co. is going to develope Burke into an upscale resort. Burke is on public land so they cannot make it private. Will they try to limit the public as much as possible? You bet they will. They are developing a 5000+ acre private ski resort near Vail. They have built and developed several upscale golf resorts arounfd the country, all private.
Haystack is bought to be developed into a private resort but with publically proclaimed "limited public" access. I don't think anyone knows exactly what that means yet.
Is this just two ski area's in a short time span or is a trend developing here? Private ski areas are not new, Bear Creek here in Vermont or YMC in Montana.
On one hand it's not a big deal maybe unless these hills are your home mountain. Currently, they represent a small part of the ski scene. But what about 10 years from now?
Here is an article in the BFP about the Burke thing.
