I skied it this year on 12/22 just after the rope dropped and launched of the rock right before the Ski Patrol put in the markers for it. It was awesome, knee deep in spots. Really wish they would blow snow on this.

With a low base like that, how far is the drop from the biggest rock?

It can be 15+ foot drop depending on how you hit it.

I suppose that would be one negative of blowing snow on DF, unless they avoided that area of the trail. I literally recall skiing down the rock it was so buried in snow. Some of it was exposed, but it wasn't all that different from skiing down the backside of a steep snowmaking 'whale'. I supposed you could and some people probably did try and air off of it, but with giant bumps everywhere, there wasn't much if any of a landing zone.

yeah in the old daze before they rerouted the upper section, they used to totally bury the thing. in addition to lengthening the season, perhaps one of the biggest things k can do to get some buzz back would be to blow a ton of snow on the fiddle. much cheaper than an interconnect or a village. just blow snow on a trail you already have. no-brainer ...

It wasn't a reroute. It was dynamite applied to the ledge on skier's left. That band of little cliffs used to go all the way across the trail.

Yes....from what I understand it was signifigantly bigger and collected snow very well.

just another situation with K ruining one of it's greatest assets.

that is by far more snow than i've ever persoanlly seen on that trail. i bet those turns were just fantastic
two seasons ago i skied that in the rain with another dude who works at sundown. it had snowed 6inches a few days before hand, and then was raining the day we were at K. i chose to kind of skip and hop with larger radius turns and pick my way through the twigs and water bars amongst the cement / paste sticky goop, where as other guy opted for the precise tele turn slow ski aproach... this guy must have head overed 4 or 5 times. such a funny spectical. he's a solid skier, but was just getting his but handed to him time and time again.

after that, we did outer limits, with its icier base, the skiing was much easier on the thighs and we both regained some condience in the day... making our Ovation runs later in the day that much more enjoyable (by the way, ovation is another K run like fiddle that i love)

Still, K in the rain... holy crap. it was the most die hard day of that season for me. hmm long trails
