Where do you buy ski gear? In a sporting goods store, of course. Therefore, skiing is a sport.

Or a hobby or pasttime. Whatever.

Yes, but 2knees had much better lower body form...he did a great job keeping his knees together.

Where do you think he got the handle "2knees"?

Walk and carry 18 holes on a hot/humid day and it's pretty demanding physically. I only play once or twice a year and usually ride when I do, but even then after 18 holes, I don't feel like I was just sitting around. Most people that think golf is an easy "game" that fat old guys play never even tried it.

Yeah...Tiger Woods is certainly Fat and OUT OF SHAPE....ever see that guys GUNS and BACK....he's definately in great physical shape..

Golf is not for fat old men wearing funny pants anymore..

And NOONE has mentioned that BOWLING is considered a sport and its scored, but you definately dont have to be in shape...unless that shape is ROUND..

Perhaps..but c'mon...on that same hot and humid day, I'll be out riding 50+ miles...no comparison.

And there are plenty plenty of fat golfers on the pro tour.

When I was in High School, I was part of both a Marching Band and also a Drum Corps (essentially, a more competitive and often times more skilled version of a Marching Band, at least around this region). Drum Corps is one of the most physically demanding activities I have engaged in. Certainly more strenuous and physically demanding than my most challenging days skiing, including earning turns and highly. It was also highly competitive both on the field and off with the best groups also pulling in more money which helped fund the activity. I used to argue with people back in High School that "Drum Corps was a sport." Is it really? Well, besides the fact that who cares, it really doesn't meet the generally accepted semantic use of the world in modern English.

You guys can quote dictionary definitions all day, but it is the commonly accepted use of the world that matters most. Ask any non-dedicated typical family that hits the slopes two or three times a year on vacation if skiing is a sport. I doubt many would agree that it is unless you are engaged in competition. And I would tend to agree with that position even considering my excessively physically demanding approach to the activity.

You can pursue athletic activities without competition and that to me eliminates that title of "sport." Just my opinion based on how I have always understood the word as used in everyday conversation.
