Just curious if any of the couples out there share cars. I have my car and my wife has hers. I actually bought her car for her because it's what I wanted to drive. I like it much better than mine. How often to do I get to drive it? maybe a day a month :smash:

This seems to be the case with everyone I know.

Yes. But, I always drive no matter where we go....regardless of who's car we're driving. Wife drives an SUV for the girls...so, occasionally, I will need it to haul something or if I'm taking the girls and need the 3rd row for more kids etc., but otherwise, I'd much rather be driving my car than an SUV.

We don't share cars. One big reason is my car is a stick shift and my wife never learned to drive it (except once in a parking lot when she was drunk and wanted to try it ..) haha.

Chances are I'll be replacing her car before mine and wishing i had hers to drive instead

My wife's car is a stick, part of the reason why I prefer driving it. She hates driving mine because it's an automatic. I've regretted getting the auto ever since I bought my car, but at the time I wanted a V6 and the stick was only available in the 4 cyl.

I have my car, she has hers. When we go out as a family we often take hers, in which case I drive it.

We have his and her vehicles but both are in both names.
If we are both in the car together then I drive no matter what car.
We do switch cars up as I drive to a train and she drives to work so we don't put all the miles on one car.

Both SUV's so gas/room is about the same.
Hers is safer so it is the kid hhauler
Hers is also nicer (go figure) so nights out we usually take hers.
She wants a new car I would be happy driving mine into the ground.

I have mine, he has his.

When I had kids at home, I drove a Volvo wagon; he drove a full-size van for business.

As empty approached, I bought a Volvo convertible, he bought a new Volvo wagon for himself. He never liked driving or riding in that C70.

Just got a new-to-me '06 BMW convertible, 5-speed and he likes it. We'll probably now take my car more often when we go out.

No, we have 'the car' and 'the truck'. They belong to both of us and we just take which ever one makes more sense for what ever we are doing. I on days we don't car pool I nd up with the truck allot, but I don't really mind even though 'the car' is much nicer and more fun. But if I'm doing something with a client I will take the car that day. We also car pool to work most of the week so it's not Ever an issue

Yep! She drives the A6, I drive the Grand Cherokee. I'm more likely to go to the Depot at lunch and pick up a bunch of lumber/ect. But when we go out together, no matter what we take, I usually drive.

I'm definitely 'the driver' no matter which car we are in if we are traveling together. We just don't trade off cars on say weekends when I go skiing alone. This is mostly by design. I put 35K miles a year on my car just for work, so I also use my car on ski trips to keep the mileage down on my wife's car. Once I drive my car into the ground, I'll get a new car for her and take over her current car and drive it into the ground.

Maybe I need a new job where I'm not traveling for work. Looks like I'm destined to be driving the POS car in the household for life as things currently stand.

Yup, totally his and hers cars. She's got her Audi Q7, I've got my GMC Acadia. When we go out together I drive the vast majority of the time. And overall, I put probably 99.8% of my yearly mileage on my car and my wife puts about 99% of the yearly mileage on her car.

Finally going to get another manual tranny!

My wife's Legacy is just about kaput, so she is going to take the Outback I bought last year and I'm going to get a new Legacy sedan with a 5 speed. I'm also going to pick up a used Outback for my 17 year old son who is the newest driver in the family.

Can't wait for the 5 speed...not looking forward to the new insurance premium (gag).

Funny, I always drove stick. When I got married and it was time to buy a new car I got an automatic because she couldn't drive stick. Always liked little four cylinders so I purchased a Honda Civic. I liked camping, never was a problem before I got married. After I got married, camping turned into a much bigger project, my Honda Civic almost bottomed out due to all the weight we carried. So, I purchased a Toyota 4runner. Now she drives the 4runner, didn't like driving the Civic (automatic cause she couldn't see over the dash) and I got the Civic (automatic). Since then, totaled Civic and now have Corolla, still auto, and she still drives the 4runner

Nope, auto saab 9-3 and manual awd mitsui outander. Each is too specialized - its a matter of whats needed. We carpool regularly and swap vehicles all the time.

I'll prob never get another auto if I can help it though.

Yup...the Volvo S40 is mine and the Jeep GC is the DW's. Neither available with manual transmission but the DW doesn't know how to drive a stick and the one time I tried to teach her it didn't go well...

My wife is the car nut of the family. She currently drives a Lincoln LS with a stick shift. She's been looking into a Mercedes or Jaguar for her next vehicle. She's got the better taste so I just go with it. For me cars have never been a big thing but I need one that can tow 5000 pounds (Boat and trailer) so I drive a Dodge Durango SUV. We also have a 3rd car (Toyota Avalon) that I use for local stuff and lend out to my 18 yo daughter when she is so deserving. Won't give it to her completely yet since we have to have a hammer to hold over her head and we pay for the insurance. (not cheap here in NJ)
