So what does a hardcore big mountain skier like yourself do when you have 3-4 hours on a Saturday morning and can't make it up to VT, NH or ME to ski? Sit home on a ski forum? Hit up Yago(or whatever it is called)? While it seems Sundowns terrain is lame to a lot of the forum members here, I feel fortunate to have them close by.

I forgot where I said I was a hard core big mountain skier. Could you point that out? AGAIN, I THINK ITS COOL YOU GUYS LOVE THE PLACE SO MUCH. But its a bit of overkill to those of us who dont care about the place. Its just my OPINION. You Sundown people get so fussy when someone says anything even remotely critical of the place...its like I shot your dog or something. Geez, remind me to never say anything critical about Sundown again. It's just my opinion of a hill.

I get it. And I apologize if I overreacted.

And you're entitled to it, but I don't agree. I would never attempt to stifle people from posting trip reports or discussing things that they are passionate about. In fact I wish more people would post TRs. The simple fact is there are a lot of active AZers that not only frequent Sundown, but are pass holders. We're just going to see a lot of TRs and discussion about it as a result. If you don't like such threads, just skip them. Simple as that.

Yeah, but your opinion of a hill you've never been to though. If you're basing it on a vert stat, trail count or natural snowfall, you're missing the bigger picture. Come out and rip bumps with us for a day. If you don't have a good time, or think the place sucks, by all means post about it, but come out with an open mind. beetlenut is from RI as well and he seems to think the place is worth the drive. I will admit, if you're not a mogul skier or park rat, you might tire of the place quickly. But for those of us that do like bumps, it's the best option south of Vermont, and I for one will continue to sing its praises and talk about it. Feel free to skip those threads.

lol, i call it the napolean complex. some of us are downright rabid about sundown and defend it against all attacks, real or percieved.

which, btw, i think is the latter in your case.

its all good!

All good points. I wasnt trying to bash the place. Maybe I'm subconsciously jealous that I dont have a local hill in my backyard that I can enjoy as much as you guys do.

BLESS, I wish you had a playground close to you. Even if it were a small hill, those little places generate a sense of community and a vibe that is bigger than any Mountain when it really counts.

+1

I feel so lucky to have what I consider a good place to ski 45 minutes from home. Trek is right the community atmosphere is awsome. I really understand how the Sundown crew feels because I feel the same way about Camelback.

What does it mean when you DO post a trip report and it gets 100 views but no comments?

probably means there was a Sundown TR for the same day and everyone is in that thread discussing bumps and how awesome it is to have such a great place close to home

LOL! I actually live in CT and my kids ski SunDown every Wed and Thurs with the schools ski clubs, so I get my own personal trip reports. I suggested to the one that goes on Wed nights to head over to Temptor and yell out "Alpine Zone" and see who responds. But then changed my mind cuz he's a boarder and I feared for his life. Thou he is pretty damn good in the moguls.
